The dealership had recommended it it prior to when i had it changed. But i put it off because i did not have the $ for it. They showed me a sample of my fluid compared to new fluid. Mine was past due. As soon as i had it changed , the whine went away. I was beyond happy that it stopped. Good luck. Hopefully this helped you!

You will need a CVT transmission fluid change, best take it to the dealer to get that work done. I had that issue and after the second day the whining noise went away haven't heard it since then.

Gts whine
I'm the owner of a 2009 Lancer GTS 5 speed and my car makes the same wine but it's all the time RPM 0 to 6000 I'm pretty sure it's the serpentine belt they're wider on GTS 2.4 liter just big enough to make a supercharger type sound

The Mitsubishi Lancer... Drives like a low class sedan but cost like a luxury sedan to repair/maintenance.
I don't think I'll ever buy another Mitsubishi. Repairs are giving me headache(pricing & reliability/availability).

Did you change your cvt oil at the dealership or did you use an aftermarket brand that is equivalent or better Cvt oil?
