I really don't see how those changes could dramatically affect throttle response in a way that is measurable. Ultimately it is air under vacuum that matters and, critically, the air is restricted in whether it can enter the intake by the filter element. What you're saying may sound like it works on paper, but that's a far throw from reality.

What you're saying is the same as an engine being able to process more units of air per unit of time.

Again, the MAF is only a choke point if it chokes. Moreover, turbulence is actually a good thing to some degree. You want the air to be tumbling to allow a better mixture with the fuel.

I've never heard of the 4G94 Lancer restricting throttle. I suspect something else is going on.

lol, I said it increased air flow, whether it was dramatic is another question. But yeah, you're right that the air under vacuum is what counts, but if you can reduce the amount of work the vacuum has to do to get air in, then that's an improvement

That's why some people suggest Ram Air intakes over cold because the excited warm air molecules bouncing around does mix better with fuel. Problem is you get less air molecules than you would with could and that's a trade off. Turbulence is a good thing if it's controlled. Granted the degree of turbulence I'm talking about is really really small, but like I said, if something can be more efficient, might as well squeeze as much performance out of a part as you can.

I'll look into the throttle restriction when I get back. I remember a while back reading a topic in the engine management section that said that the way the Lancer is programmed from the factory, it can't really achieve true WOT. How valid that is, is up in the air though.

On a side note, when I get back to the states, I'm gonna give the shop building my car a Ralliart flag I carried with me in my assault pack when I went on missions. It's seen a lot of Afghanistan and I thought it would be a neat gift (along with a framed picture of us holding up the flag). My car's been stuck in the shop since August and the shop itself isn't that big. The guys at the shop have been really cool about the build and my car taking up room that they could use for another customer's car. But yeah, here's the pic I took today:

I'm the guy on the far left holding the flag. (Photo was edited... removed names, ranks, and unit affiliation since we're still in a deployed environment)

Ram air is chosen for more reasons than turbulence. A well designed cold air intake should have turbulence. Ram air theoretically has better throttle response because a smaller volume needs to be pressurized, at least in this application. A proper ram air also actively forces air into the intake using a scoop, something which most Lancer short ram intakes do not.

FYI.. ST and SP both allow tuning, but uncracked motors and on proper fuel still.. SM well.. ur f*xkd.. ur be running guys like me.. which is alot of fun actually even with M/t drag radials upfront.. LOL (YEP I DID IT with drag radials!)

but no seriously.. IF u wanna autoX.. and be competitive.. ST is where its at. (actually called STS now) unlimited suspension mods, but stock motor, no added forced induction.. tuning is allowed and basic bolt ons (intake headers exhaust). with serious suspension mods, camber, and massive tires(DOT stamped).. and u will be competitive in STS. i did great in ST with my suspension setup and tires.

CSP and SM, and HS are like the biggest and most compeititve where i live. and ASP is big in atlanta(s2000s and stuff like that)

in SM.. u need R comps, and suspension, and power.. i dont think NA will be enough power(maybe depending on how shorttrack ur group is, but we get up to about 70mph here which is pretty fast for autox). down side is, u have to have full interrior still.. BUT u can gut back seat, and still a bunch of other wieght out the car(sub 2400lbs) and make some good improvements in suspension cuz of weight different. but the more power the bigger disadvanage u are at cuz of the FWD and lack of traction under 50mph.

Yeah, ST was where I was at because of my suspension mods. I think STS was for 2 doors and coupes, but I can't recall off the top of my head. Once I get started up again for the 2012 season, I think I'm pretty much restricted to SM because of the swap and internal modifications to the motor (Unless I don't say anything lol). The track layouts here vary and the ones I've done emphasized lots of continues low-speed corners. The fastest I recall going is a quick straight-away through a slalom, followed by a u-shaped apex. In any case, I'll start doing research into the classes I'm eligable for since I have to renew my membership on the site anyway.

I Have yesterday my Mirage on the Superflow Dyno running,

4g94 Block bored (2.03L)
4g93E Head (intake portet)
4g94 Mitsubishi Rods
4g92 Mivec +1mm Piston
Serie 4g93E Camshaft´s

Power output: 178HP 214NM
The Camshaft is the weak point, to low lift on High RPM, i think 200HP is feasible with HIGH Camshafts.

Srry for my bad English

@blonder... nice, that's roughly the direction I'm taking with my build. Do you happen to have pictures of you Mirage? Particularly pictures of the engine so I have an idea of what my finished product might look like.

blonder is that your stock radiator hose/radiator? I put in an evo 5 radiator and had to use radiator flexhose to get one to fit.
