hello everyone,

ok so i dont know if im in the wrong forum...if not sorry, anyways...i need some help with something thats wrong with my lancer, the car turns on fine and does everything fine, but since this weekend, i was noticing that sometimes when im on the main street with my car and all...the car seems to go blank sometimes, all the gauges (fuel, water, mph) it seems like it turns off but after like a second or so the car gets back to normal, it did this to me twice today on my way back from college, so if anyone has experimented this please tell me need to know as fast as i can to fix the problem.

thanks in advance!

Reviving this thread cause i have additional news on this (havent gotten it fixed still, due to the fact that no mechanic can give me a straight answer) went to a couple of mechanics and the all said different things changed the cables of the motor ( dont know the name sorry) and its still there then, they cleaned up the intake and the fuel injector, and still the same problem, and finnaly the other mechanic i went to came to a conclusion that it might be the Flow meter...so i have no idea what to think already, but the question is:

Can the Flow meter make my car do these things, like turn off while still in a red light, or cause the effects of wanting to turn off while im driving?? need some answer by ppl that have these cars and mayb have passed through this already plz reply and thx alot

!

My first thought would be the Battery cables/battery connections, but you said that you replaced those so...

I understand BMW's are different, but my father had this problem to the "T" and his solution was a new alternator. He had taken it to a specialized shop that dealt with hard to diagnose problems and they had it for about three weeks straight. Unfortunately his alternator is about $700, yeah its water cooled lol. But I would recommend trying to find a specialized electrical mechanic to take a look at the inner workings of the alternator. All in all my father ended up taking it to five different places before spending the loads of money on a high end (above dealer) shops.

Have you tested the battery/alternator yet as previously suggested? Clean all grounds and inspect the ground wires for breaks/ loose connections. Check your main fuses to see if one might be loose causing intermittent connection.

Dont know what flow meter they speak of??

think he talkin about the maf, and i would think it could cause that since it determines how much air is being passed through to keep the engine running right.

Havent checked the alternator yet need to go to the mechanic, havent been able to in college but thininking bout doing that and yes the flow meter is the maf its like a little sensor like thing that is on top of the little box before the intake, so it might be that? If theres a chance i might go out and buy one but wanna be 100% sure

MAF is not your problem, I'm sure of that. Have a reputable shop test the alternator. And stop shopping around for different mechanics, you will never fix your car that way. Pick one who is knowledgeable (not the one who suggested the Mass Air Flow sensor!) and take your car there regularly. As a mechanic and shop owner, I know there is nothing worse than people who "shop around" for car repairs. If I dont know the history of the car and what was previously done, how can I fix it?

I agree with you just was looking for different opinions to see what it was, anyways the car did the same thing to me again today, but something i noticed, that when the car did that i had 1/4 of gas on the car when that happened, the gas went down to like half of the 1/4 it had...im thinking, i dont kknow, but woulndt that be a problem with the gas filter, or something with that cuz i didnt notice that until now...what do you all think about that???
