Um maybe its just the angle change from the camera but did the cam gear stop moving when the cranking changed sound?

If so you have some stripped teeth on that timing belt and possibly a very bad day

Free running as in non interference? No unfortunately if the timing belt breaks there is a high chance of engine damage. I will quote from another thread I posted in.

Make sure you DO NOT rotate the top end until the bottom end is set. Next turn the cam shaft to get it to TDC. Then turn the bottom end back up to TDC and install the new timing belt.

Its most definately out of time right now. The top end stopped instantly when this happened but the bottom end turned for a little longer. Not to menion you have cranked on it since then You cannot do anymore damage than is already done using my method above. Good luck man hit me up if you have any questions I have done this lots and lots of times
Here is a quick writup for aligning the timing marks.

Also when installing the timing belt you want to start at the cam and follow the engine rotation keeping the belt tight of course so from the cam sprocket >water pump > crank gear > then slide it over the tensioner pulley. then make sure to slightly rotate the engine just maybe a 1/4 turn with that tensioner loose so all the slack gets soaked up by that spring on the tensioner pulley to have to correct belt tension. Then tighten the pulley up and rotate the engine at least twice to confirm the marks line back up good luck

Best case scenario is you are blessed and somehow the valves and pistons missed each other (not impossible I've seen it happen) and you install a new belt and off you go using my method described above. Worst case.. start searching junkyards for a new engine my friend. I would start by buying a new belt and using my method above install the new belt then do a compression test. This will tell you if there has been any damage. If compression tests good then your set. If it does not you will be pulling off the cylinder head to see if its just bent valves or pistons damage as well.

it's possible there is no damage...replace timing belt and check compression, if good...try starting it.

Get a long pipe on the end of your half inch drive ratchet like a 3.5 footer. Spray some penetrating oil on the bolt behind the bearing face. And make sure you prevent the motor from turning by jamming a pry bar or not screwdriver in the flywheel under the car. Break the bolt loose. I actually too the oil pan off and jammed a pry bar in between the block and the crank which made it unable,to rotate and break loose. Or u can rent a impact and not have to worry about the motor rotating as your trying to break the crankshaft pulley bolt loose.

My timing marks weren't lined up perfectly niethier. The dot on the crank sprocket wasn't lined up perfectly with the arrow on the oil pump it was off by a tooth. Should be fine as long as its pretty close to the mark.
