Standard or Direct Coil Packs?

First off, I'll go ahead and apologize beforehand if this is already answered, but I can't seem to find anything about this here.

I'm having trouble with what seems to be misfiring in my 2003 Lancer ES (150K miles). If I put the accelerator anywhere close to the floor the car stutters and acts like its about to stall out. After getting a few opinions (feel free to add your own), I think I'm dealing with bad ignition coil packs.

When looking for replacements, I often see "Standard" and "Direct" listed on most parts websites. Will either of these do? What's the difference? Thanks for any info.

No check engine lights, at least not since a few weeks ago when the coolant temp sensor went bad. I replaced that and haven't had a CEL since. I've actually been dealing with this issue for a while now but every time I take it in to have it looked at, no one could find an issue. It wasn't until recently when I discovered i can now make it happen on command by simply giving it a little more gas. It basically revs very briefly, then bam, no power. It stutters, then eventually starts moving again after easing up on the gas and letting it catch up. It will even once in a blue moon die on me when I'm backing up. I've had tuneups since and just changed out the fuel pump and sock this weekend.
