All You Need to Know: The DOHC 4G9X Headswap
Reviving this thread. I am planning to have a similar project for my Lancer however I have a different engine though, I have a 4g92 SOHC. Now my question, since the thread starter is referring to a block with a high displacement does that mean I no longer need a 70mm idler pulley? I can just use all the stock parts that I have and just get a MIVEC timing belt with 154 teeth?
If I recall all the 4G9X series essentially had the same block with a few differences made each update. Its the Displacement inside that has been changed via Stroke and Bore updates(at least for the 4G93 to 4G94). There are several parts that are interchangeable between the 4G92, 4G93, 4G94(even 4G91 to 4G92/4G93), ie Crank Shaft Pully/Harmonic Balancer, Camshaft Pulley, etc. I even found that the oil pump and power steering are the same for the 4G93 & 4G94. So, you would, in theory, still need the same pully. I, myself will be doing this conversion at some point during the summer of next year after I get the miles put onto my new block.
Just an update. We were able to put in the 4g92 DOHC head into the 4g92 SOHC block and it bolt on easily. Unfortunately we encountered an issue. We put in the 70mm pulley we but the MIVEC timing belt (154 teeth) does not fit and is too long by about 4 teeth.
I started a 4G92 SOHC project and I'm curious how yours ended up?
Also, where did you source your DOHC head?
Cheers
