Intake Manifold and Throttle Body porting
Intake Manifold and Throttle Body porting
What's up guys, I have 02/ OZ with a couple of bolt ons. I'm thinking about tearing my intake manifold and Throttle body off and taking them to my local machine shop to get them ported and polished. Has anybody done this yet and if so what kind of bore/how much bore did you get? I would appriciacte any feed back on this. I live in Colorado so the more air i can get in there the faster i can go.

Ummm, most of us just order the bored throttle body ($289) and intake manifold ($350) from RRM, so I'm not sure how many people will have experience doing it. There was a member who had a shop and offered to do it, but I haven't seen him around lately.
there really is no difference.... if you find out the appropriate size to leave, you should be fine, i was thinking the same thing... because really you're just getting rid of the middle man
You (meaning as a collective group, the Lancer guys) actually bore the TB? Hmm... interesting.
Well for much cheaper yo ucan pick up a bigger TB and actually port your manifold yourself.
Intake manifold, yo ucan do yoruself or have professionally done (at least around here) for about 300 - 350. Either way, you should have tons of other mods to warrant such gains, like at the very least, H/I/X.

yeah i just don't know where to start looking for one. if there is better and its that time to look for a tb then i will look around . but as of now rrm is my #1 option for a t/b.
IM should cost about 250, TB maybe another 100-150, maybe, but this isnt going to take away business from RRM, it didnt for me, reason being, road race knows what the hell their doing
Another thing to consider is that RRM tapers their bores, creating a venturi which makes the air enter faster as well. If you get it done by any ol' machine shop, you might want to make sure they're doing that.
One question is are the larger TBs emissions legal?

I'm not sure about the legal side of it but i'm not to worried about it. My car is already loud as hell with the RRM test cat and custome catback. I havn't been pulled over yet. I've already talked to the guy's at my local machine shop and they said they would charge me around 200 to get both my IM and TB done. I'll have to ask them about the taper effect. I don't wanna spend 350 for theIM and another 250 or whatever it costs for the TB when i can get it done cheaper and not have to pay S/H. I trust this shop. They have done stuff for me on my firebird and i felt significant gains. I was just wondering if anybody else had this done or if they all went with RRM. I'm a poor little college student and have to save as much as i can. I really don't want to deal with the core exchange either. It's costly to send those things for me.

It's just one of the local machine shops. THere's actually two different shops i'm thinking about, one is called ALL pro and that's just a regular machine ship that will fab anything you can come up with. The other is called Maximum Performance. Maximum is alittle more expensive but i hear they do awsome work. I bought my Pontiac 400 from them and havn't had one complaint yet.
Pump i would recommend looking into it. It can save you alot of money. Make sure that your getting quality work though. If you can ask them to see some of there work or see if you can watch them do the work, most good shops woun't have a problem with that.
