Engine swap

I want to buy a 2002 oz rally with a bad 2.0 engine. I currently have a 2003 es with a good 2.0 engine. Is it as simple as removing all hoses bolts etc, lifting one with an engine crane and replacing it with the other? Then refilling fluids and such? I have the opportunity to get the 2002 cheap, and my car is a POS... except the engine haha. I cant afford to go out and buy a whole new car in perfect condition.

As long as both of them have the same transmission, I don't see why you couldn't.

There is not a difference between the two, ( besides a little things like interior pieces and bolt pattern for the wheels )

If you have the right tools, and depending on alcohol intake, you should be able to do it in a weekend.

If the shell of the OZ is in good shape and your motor is worthy of it, do it, and sell your ES to the scrape yard and pocket a few hundred bucks.

I would find the sticky that says " Getting your motor ready for a turbo" I think it has detailed instructions on how to remove the motor, then simply reverse the process and place the new motor in.

Don't worry about people yelling at you, hardly any traffic on this site, so I am sure they are happy to just have a new post. The way everything is moved around it's hard to find stuff anyway.

You click on a thread just to discuss it in another thread.

ALL might not be lost, you might be able to convert over to the 5 speed if you are mechanically inclined.

Do some more research, and see if you can just bolt the motor up to your tranny and keep it a auto.

Not sure about wiring and what not, so I would find some schematics and compare the two and see what you get.

EDIT: Never ever buy a auto unless the wife forces you too.

Come to think of it, if you just swap out the flywheel and torque converter and make sure you get everything that the tranny bolts switched over, ( Mounts and what not, I have never seen or worked on a auto Lancer ) it should work out fine.

A engine is a engine.

Well, ok, if he hasn't yet, he might not be husband material.

As stated before, as long as you unbolt everything mount and tranny wise, it should work without issue.

I agree with Metalsoft, it should be a straight forward job, the engine is pretty much the same. I do think you may have to swap out the ECU also?
