Basically as long as you're smog compliant (I don't know if they even sniff new cars) and your OBDII redout is ok, I don't think you have any cause for concern.

I don't have the header YET!!! I'm looking into it. Looks like I'll get the Kamikaze header. And then get the mil eliminator because the CEL WILL come on. I just want to make sure I can pass inspection when the time comes. It sounds like I will as long as I have the mil eliminator.

Why are you sorry? It says NJ right there in your mini profile next to your name. Anyway, headers usually don't pass on the Lancer because they require you to remove the cat. Turbos generally don't pass because they aren't CARB approved. Any intake that is CARB approved will usually pass. Any altered ECU that doesn't pass probably isn't a good ECU to be running anyway. Other than that, the car just basically has to pass the sniffer for emissions (pollution)

I'm pretty sure we don't need to pop the hood. Last I checked it was sniffer, shocks, lights, horn, have a nice day. This was on an older car, so I don't know if they sniff OBDII compliant cars as long as their redouts are normal.

In Utah they don't sniff newer cars. Instead they hook up a computer to your OBDII port and run a full ECU test checking all your monitors and sensors and all the information your ECU has stored about your driving. Talk about rape.

I've never seen them pop the hood before so I don't think that would be much of a problem. If they did I could just put the heat shield over the header the day of. As long as I have the mil eliminator or just move the O2 sensor after the header the CEL won't come on and I should be ok right?
