help me decide!
Lancer with turbo, can keep up with a evo at a roll, thats where the 12k comes from. i mostly said that to let him realize that he doesnt need to do a swap to be quick, although it doesnt have near the potential of the evo.
Hard ***, better be damn good, drivetrain swap would be 5-6k more depending on that you would need no outside help on welding/fabrication. Most of the suspension components do link up cuz they are bolted in the same pattern, same spots, but for all wheel drive it needs to have the rear differential bolt up pattern welded in off of an evo, or it could be fabricated and strengthened. Even with everything matching up, the frame still isnt as strong. So as far as the converting to awd would be pretty stupid, cuz you could get an evo used for 22k

Too high of compression equals stuff starts breaking.

Thanks, I haven't looked into pistons much because of the price and I'm thinking if I'm doing pistons then I might as well do rods and stage one cam all at the same time, and if I do all that I might as well buy a turbo. So either way I hve some saving to do or a lottery to win before either senerio happens, anyway, thanks for the clarification.

Lancer with mods = 12k
Evo with no mods new= 40k
Evo used= 20k+
Plenty of reasons to keep the lancer. Most parts are interchangable with little modification. Cost tens of thousand less while still remain the same style. If you were to find a totaled evo and do a drivetrain swap and being a master welder could cost around 6k more putting you at about the cost of a used evo.
I do agree with this though.
"If you want an RRM turbo and a tranny swap, why not sell your Lancer and buy a manual model? Lancers are so cheap, you can probably do that without losing much if any money. Then slap the turbo on the manual car."[/QUOTE]
Where do you guys come up with pricing. I wish a new Evo was 40k...the resale of my 04 would be sick. A new RS from Soath Coast in Cali. is 25,500 out the door. It is 800 flat bedded to east coast so at most your talking 26,300 for a new RS IX EVO, and that is delivered from Cali to CT.
Also, modding a car that wasn't built to be fast cost crazy money. Ask any of the honda guys that have made civics into fast street cars. When I had a WRX I spent so much money to make it less of a car than my Evo is now...all because I was making the car something that it wasn't. Evo owners go through the same crap with huge turbo's...than engine breaks....than tranny breaks...than transfer case breaks....than axles break. Once you start modding it never ends. Just something to think about.

I was saying 40k cuz thats what the MSRP is of the new MR. I do agree about the modding, it is a money pit. For the cost of a lancer though, you could make it considerably fast without buying an evo, but most people if they can have an evo, wouldnt even flinch at the chance to have one, i know i wouldnt. Too make a long story short, if you like your lancer and want to stay wiht it trade it for a manual and turbo it. If you want a swap, just buy an evo.

Just some thoughts...
It is a good idea to consider pushing a car beyond its limits. From what I have read and experienced, placing a turbo on a car like this is a great idea as long as you have already considered why you are going turbo in the first place.
Tired of getting embarassed by a v6 honda odyssey on the highway? Yep then get it. Even if you wanna push it sometimes and just enjoy working in it, then do it. Wanna race? Probably not a great idea considering fwd and many other vast technical issues.
if you want to go the fwd turbo racing route, go for an srt4. yep i think they look awful but if you are considering turbo then you are probably more performance minded and can put the ego aside. wanna be legit? evo, or 10,000 plus into anything else

turboed auto lancers can make great power.... you just dont have the control over the gears/rpm's that you do in a manual. for a good street car for a lil fun a auto is ok.... race-car, get a manual.
Id take an evo like anyone would. build up the lancer for a good driver. down the road get a evo and still have the lancer for your daily. As long as your not to high miles....lol
