Why would one want a longer 1st gear?

First gear sucks. It's just basically there to get the car moving, then you immediately shift into 2nd.
Try driving a different car. In my '69 Camaro, I can actually drive in 1st gear.

 

lol yeah, first gear is funny. I drove my girlfriends saturn and first went forever it felt like. But when I said what is the point of the thread, I meant like, why is anyone asking?

 

That's how forums work. 10% of posts are good technical knowledge or questions, the other 90% is bored chatter and spam.

 

lol well my first thought was that it would turn into an evo trying to get lancers to admit how slow we are or something. Just wondered if there was a useful reason for the thread.

I do have a Civic hb with the longest geared tranny ever... 45 in 1st, and 90 max @ 7600. Good for the quarter mile w/ only one shift point, but crap cuz it's slow as *****. Too short is bad (like you said), and too long is crap too. Too bad on Civics you can mix and match gears! LOL

 

There was the one lancer from PR that was rumoured to run 12.9 on full stock interior.

Other than that no other lancer except for the RoadRace lancer has run in the 12s and their lancer as stated before was shelled out.

To the starter of this thread...The problem with the lancer was traction on street tires. I am not sure who wants to run 12.99 or better but I can tell you this, with my car dialed back to run 14.1 -14.5 it is still pleny fun. To break records you have to take the chance to break parts.
