HID kit question....really simple i think

ok,

i did some searching but im so confused with all this info!

all i want to know is if i buy ebay projector headlights, can i install a generic HID kit on an H3 bulb? (reason = ebay projector lgihts with H3 bulbs = not safe or usefull lighting in the dark)

and is it a lot of work to hook up a kit to headlight bulb or do the HID kits only work with STOCK headlight bulbs? So not H3's?

thanks!

Not alot of work at all. Just make sure to get the adapter kit for use with non-factory HID cars. That means, get a plug-and-play wiring kit to upgrade the factory bulb harness (9007?) to the H3 (in your case) in order so it doesn't fry your factory wires. The stock wires cannot handle the increase in power output!

would you please explain this a bit more? I'm planning on doing HIDs and projectors, but it seems like your saying there is something else we should get to make them work the best.

who would i get these adpater from? The HID kit manufacturer? The stock headlight bulb use 9007 bulbs i believe, and the headlights im buying use H3 bulbs and it says all the wiring and adpaters are included for plug and play install.

So all i do is buy a HID apater kit for H3 bulbs or 9007? or get one for both since im already converting from 9007 to H3 and then adding a HID kit, so i would need one for 9007 and H3? Im confused... :S

Only reason im not just buying an HID kit and installing it in my stock headlights is because its illegal here in Toronto if the HID lights are not in a projector housing...they are supposed to be self leveling too, but that i cant do...i can probably get away by avoiding tickets if they are atleast contained in a projector...

thanks for the reply!

Well, just browsing through Ebay looks like most of the kits now come with the upgraded harness. Alot of people throw on higher-output bulbs on their stock harness and burn the wiring up. But even the $100 kits look like they come with the right stuff. So, once you decide on a set post the link here and we'lll see!

Good luck!

can you post pix of what your headlights look like with the H3 projectors?

what exactly does he mean he converted your stock to H3? I am in the process of deciding what to do with HID and I am having trouble finding HID housing for the lancer. Did you buy a set of something like these?: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/7-COL...spagenameZWDVW

and mounted them in the stock housing while putting in these bulbs?: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EFX-8...16052447QQrdZ1

and did you order 9007 bulbs or H3 bulbs or are they the same fitment?

now i'm not trying to advertise for them, and for the record I dont own an evo <yet>, but I have bought and installed 3 HID kits from mydepots.com.. one in my 03 eclipse projectors, one in the fogs, and one in my girlfriend's toyota. A lot of club3g.com members have ordered from them besides me, all with great results
