Should I get an EVO?
OK, this is kind of a weird question.
I drive a 323i with sport package. I love the car, however, I feel I am not able to push the car even close to its limits. Not sure why, but lately I have felt the need for more power.
MY Question, would an EVO be too much car for somebody with mediocre driving skills?
Also, if anybody out there has driven both cars, and are able to let me know what the major differences and handling are it would be great.
Regardless of the replays, I have pretty much made up my mind about getting one, if they become available. Have driven the WRX about 3 times and feel it is not worth changing my car for that one.
Thanks,
Fred

well the questoin is does someone with mediocore driving skills want one or need one. if your going to just be driving around town id just keep the bmw as they are sick cars and have fairly decent performance and they look nice. no use trading in ur car for something you wont even use any differently...plus bmw is just more baller than mitsubishi =P oh yah of course the evo will handle better...its a rally car vs a sport luxury sedan...
To quote Dale Earnhardt Jr. from MTV cribs when talking about his NASCAR..."All you ballers in yer blingin Bentleys....you can't touch this"
If you want a car that's gonna kick some ***...go with the Evo. If you want something that's more show than go...stick with the BMW.
You can always take pro driving classes :headbng2:

Compared to your current car, an Evo is a rocketship. My mother owns a BMW 328 (E46) with a sport package and that car has NO power whatsoever. Compared to an Evo, it´s just slightly moving forward.
I would NEVER recommend to people with mediocre driving skills to buy an Evo, you might kill (or injure) yourself! Congratulations on saying you dont drive well, it´s hard to admit in the beginning. DOnt make it worse by getting an Evo, get one later, after some training etc.
You cant compare the handling either. But if you just cruise, it will be all the same except the Evo is less comfortable and not nearly as nice interior and quality wise. If you want looks, get a DTM bodykit for your car.

IMHO,
The solution is easy as you would expect. Why would you down-grade yourself from a bimmer to a mitsu? 3-class or what not a bimmer is a bimmer and a Mitsu will always just be a Mitsu no matter what kind it is. As for what suits you best for a mediocre driver who would like a little more power is the newer 330ci. If you go with an Evo, say goodbye to the luxury and comfort of an inline 6 beauty. Going down to a 4-banger slapped on with turbo is not the same (although I love the Evo and plan on getting one). If I wasn't single I would have bought the bimmer long time ago, however, since I am single (and still quite young)I'm going all out with a road warrior! :headbng2:
BTW, I heard the scooby WRX, although a very potent car, does not have a pleasant "driver experience" according to resources.
Thanks for the replays.
I have never done any track with any of my cars, that is why I feel I have not been able to push he car to its limits.
Ride comfort and stile were never my concern. As I have owned several Fiats, I got the car for what it is and for what it offers. The EVO looks like too much to pass on. My plans are to be able to start doing some track after getting lessons from professionals.
I am looking for a car that will give me that, and also some marginally decent ride. I don’t need a car to race from stop light to stop light.
Thanks,
Fred
I agree I did not have as much fun driving the WRX, to power was there, but there is something missing.

I have to disagree here, cause the Evo is quite easy to control on the limit, obviously depending how you set it up. It's more difficult than what you drive at the moment, but a lot less difficult than lets say a nice 911 RS. The only danger for someone with not that good driving skills is that by the time you reach the limit you'll be moving at very high speeds for the situation and reaction time is less than when you're going slower. And yes, for hairdressers I'd call moving from a BMW to an Evo a downgrade (anyone thinking like that is really not ready for an Evo and will probably end up killing himself, in fact in my eyes someone like that is a downright *****), for real enthusiasts it is more than an upgrade, it'll really open your eyes about what's possible on four wheels.

Fred,
Where are you located? You might want to look into at least 1 or 2 track events so you can learn the basics (and get the addiction) before buying an Evo and having to learn then.
The other thing is you don't have the ego that many students carry preventing them from learning anything. I think I've seen at least 3 first time students without egos become instructors after only 1 year... they're just open to learning.
If your interested in some events, just let me know and I'll try and find some in your area.
The Evo will be at home on the track, but on regular roads, it won't have the comfort and plushness of the Bimmer. I don't think you'll care once you hear the turbo spool up

Don't be surprised if you feel the same way after driving an Evo; Bimmer and Mitsu, you can't compare the two!

If ANYTHING I'd say the bimmer would be less fun to drive.Hooby
Just to make it clear, I am no Senna, but I am not Granny John either. I am just somebody that has to much going on to make a full of myself and destroy a car or even leave my kids without a dad, because did not know what the hell I was doing behind the wheel.
Thanks,
