this is why i work on diesel engines. Anyways 2 bucks extra a tank with better fuel mileage for me. And don't say im stating BS because I get 480-500 kms on 87 and 550 on 94. so thats not really a myth now is it??!

Except that that 2$ a tank is better spent elsewhere and you're likely doing harm to the motor running excessively high octane. What you are saying goes against fuel logic, that being that octane has no bearing on efficiency.

Ok you win. It's not BS. You're right, everyone else on here though is wrong. Including the science behind their facts. Continue spending your extra 2 bucks a tank.

I've been running 89 octane for a few years now. Would you expect it to hurt the car if I went back down to 87?

I don't know if the claims Shell makes are true (could be, but I'm also aware that companies do lie to make money). Personally, I always get Marathon gas. Not because I think it's the best gas in the world, but because I have a credit card that gives me 5% back when I fill up there. Although their claims of putting STP engine cleaner in the gas (I'm skeptical about whether they really do) is nice. Everyone has their own reasons.

Bottom line - there's no real answer. We can never say for certain "this is the best brand of gas." And every commercial from every company is going to say how they're the best.
i use 87 and Shell all the time... which is suprisingly the cheapest in my area. I live in SoCal.

The car, much like the human body, will do fine as long as you put in stuff it can handle (and it was specifically tuned for 87).

not proven, no one has pulled a head from one car running premium and another on regular and compared carbon build up. So its just a well tested theory so far.

Actually I think engineerboy/Alchemist did post a thread related to carbon buildup in a head running premium vs. regular.
