need idea for fixing fiberglass
Hey guys,
i bought a used evo 9/8 wing off a local guy last week. i noticed before i dropped it off for paint that the one corner on the end cap at the very bottom had a small hole/crack on it. I didnt think anything of it as you can't see it once the wing is mounted and it was nowhere near the mounting holes.
i picked up the wing from the paint shop yesterday, and on each side, 2 of the holes are still in tact but the other 2 are like ripped out half way. I asked the guy what the hell happened and he said that the mounting holes pulled out by its own weight while it was on the paint stand. I quickly accused the body shop, but now im wondering if i bought a broken wing?
Regardless, i need a way to fix this. Ive never used fiberglass and theres not enough space to use it without having to re-paint it again.
i was thinking either using some PL (construction grade adheasive) and glueing a thing but strong piece of metal with pre drilled holes to the bottom of the wing caps then obviously securing the wing to my trunk that way and drilling an extra 2 holes so id have 6 mounting points in total.
next idea would be to fiberglass it again.

A friend of mine invidented thise clip things that is used for drywall mounting points when there is no beam to secure whatever it is you want to mount to the wall. Its like a plastic screw that you do a predrilled hole for then you insert the plastic thing (dont know the name of it) and then you can screw a screw into that plastic thing. Its similar to those already on the market, im sure you all have seen them, they usually come in red, yellow and blue and come in different sizes. But the new ones that havent hit the market yet (waiting on an exclusive deal with home depot to sell it) can hold up to 80lbs each. Much better than the other stuff out there. Im thinking that might be my safest bet.
what do you guys think? ANy other idea? or should i just take my loses and try and find new end caps ?

My vote is for a metal plate reinforcing the fiberglass and repairing the area with more fiberglass. Just be sure to tape off the areas you don't want to mess up. You can make a mold of the good mount point to replicate it on the one your fixing, or if they're different make a mold of the one your fixing before you tear it up for reinforcement and re-fiberglassing. That, IMO, will be the best and least ghetto option to make the repair.
