I used to get my ***** busted all of the time at work about my car. Slowly but surely the word spread about my car being fast and that it was about to be making 500+whp w/meth and now all I get is praise. They always ask "Hey Jim, hows that little rocket of yours?" Haha....they're a bunch of old men but they like my car. I still get the occassional "You're wasting your money" but you have to look at like this.....it's YOUR HOBBY!!!! So many have different hobbies that cost them lots of money. S hit just look at all of the bad habits people have. Drinking, smoking, drugs, gambling, boating, whoring,......you name it. To most people their car is just a mode of transportation, to you it's also your hobby so do what you want.

All we want is a little respect. Nothing more. We all have a love for cars. This common ground should bring us closer together as people. Instead we constantly hate or put down others because they do not have what we have. I don't understand it. There is always something better, faster, and newer. I think we should appreciate the things you have instead of the things we don't. A lot of people can't even afford cars let alone mod one. So the next time someone says something negative about your car, because you know they will, use it for motivation. Live life for the present and don't look back.

I agree for the most part, but sometimes people can be offering friendly advice. I wanted to modify my last car and didn't listen to those that warned me the gains would not be anything great. I went ahead and threw in an intake, exhaust, and a few other goodies. In the end I had spent a couple grand and wound up with a car with significantly less torque and poorer handling than the stock model. Trust me, starting with a solid platform is the best way to build that dream car we all want.

"If its boosted and had a AWD system than theres actually not that much different."

lol, don't forget about the 250+ more spotwelds in the chassis, the entire suspension system, interios are night and day. i'd say the only similar thing about them is the mitsubishi symbols on the front and rear, lol

If you are looking to make your car fun to drive then I would suggest suspension mods. If you are looking to go fast I would suggest like others go turbo.

You can look at my mod list and I will tell you the best thing that I did was suspension mods. I've done the whole I/H/E route... ported 4g93 intake manifold. Little gains to be had with that and almost $1,500 in mods. BUT I got a turbo setup I'm building in my spare time that will go on once I have a second car or some more money.

One other thing, do what works best for you. It's about the experience and the effort. Don't let others tell you differently.

+1, absolutely. I'd start with an intake, because it's easy and sounds great when you punch it, but definately start building a suspension-related shopping list (swaybar should be near the top, then some decent springs/coilovers, depending on budget).

I wasn't trying to go into much detail I'm saying a regular lancer won't cure your need for speed but they look almost the same. Mitsubishi has a thing for that with their cars. I mean if i turned my car into a AWD and its still already turbo. I won't call it a Evolution, but i would call it Boosted AWD car and i call the Evolution a boosted AWD 4banger. Same?

Coilovers, single handedly were the best thing that I have purchased for my car. If i had to do it different I would have purchased a name brand, like Tein, but my NEX coilovers after a few years are still holding up to Northern VA traffic and roads. The only thing you loose is that riding on a cloud feeling. It also dropped my ride hight two inches so my car doesn't look like it's riding on a cloud... haha

I also did a rear tie bar, front strut bar, rear strut bar. They do make the car much stiffer. There are threads that say that the bars do little or do too much... it's really your call but do a search to find those threads. You'll learn more than you ever wanted to know.

Driving my girlfriends stock ES and my car is so different. I wouldn't ever tell someone not to mod their Lancer... it's a really fun car to drive with some simple cheap mods.

when i sold my 96 honda hatchback to get my 04 lancer ralliart i got some weird looks from my friends like " why did you get a lancer?", i needed a newer car and something more reliable, not like my hatch which was a salvage title, completely blown suspension and where i live in cali stupid people like to break into hondas a lot! even jack em!. but i like what the lancer ralliart offered, sport tune suspension, evo style shifter, sun and sound package, front strut bar, sport tuned exhaust, nice interior!, and i got it for $11,500, couldnt pass up the deal for what the car offered. Even my friends were surprised what my lancer came stock with!. Im modding it slowly cuz of bills but ill show my friends!............that my lancer could look just as sexy as their hondas, acuras and nissans

yes true
but there is a big difference between the two cars and now you can pick up a nice 03 evo for 15k, i'd wait a year with this economy and you'll be able to find one for less than that. In all honestly though, all that matters is people keep modifying whatever car they own to keep the industry going.

kinda off topic but btw how much does the lowest model lancer weigh in at?
