Hydrolock.

so, i'm driving home yesterday morning from Sea World San Diego(work) and out of nowhere there's a huge lake looking thing in the lane next to me.

i swerve quick and try to dodge it but no.
too late.
the car immediately turned off and i barely had enough momentum to get over to the side of the road.
i pop the hood to see any noticeable damage and its no biggie...
you know, the usual hole the size of my fist in the block.
i check the oil level and it looks perfect.
still doesn't change the fact there's a massive hole in my block.
so my question to you guys now, what should i do.

wheres the pic of the hole? Sorry to hear about the bad luck hope your car gets back on the road. I have driven thru super heavy rains with big splashing puddles in my mazda and this lancer, and never encountered it.

Where you hammering the gas. because if you tried to avoid you took your foot of the gas right? The two cases I know of hydro lock come from some RSX friends, but they were mashing the gas and driving like there was no today and no tomorrow.

once again sorry to hear the bad luck

Damn, sorry to hear that.
The same thing happened to me last year. I got lucky and didn't damage my block.
You could buy a whole new engine for $500 or so. Or you can just buy a new car.
If I were you I would buy a used engine and just build it up.

Good luck.

man i never heard of a hole in the block from hydrolocking. if that didnt happen i would of said crank motor with ratchet in reverse n put some tran fluid then start it up but ouch!. get a 04-06 ralliart this time. n get a aem bypass valve plus a injen hydroshield that goes over filter both combos help huge! tho loss of some ponies but at least that wont happen again. good luck and hope to see ya still on the forums!

He got a hole in the block since water can't be compressed.

And you never want to crank an engine in reverse. If your block was fine then all you had to do is pull out the plugs and crank the car so all the water spits out. Then you would get new plugs, change the oil and check the compression. Obviously you would have to check other parts but that would be just the basics.

i was attempting to switch lanes when a huge Tundra sped by me causing me to swerve into that lake of a puddle.
i immediately let off the gas and coasted to safety but it was too late.

the hole is by the AC unit which was also damaged.
as you know, there's no way i can fit a camera in there.

my insurance picked the car up this morning and took it to the shop.
still awaiting the verdict.
test drove an '05 Apex silver EVO today though.
looking in that direction.
not really feeling the twin clutch tranny of the '09 RA.
i like to drive while doing this.

yeah, water doesn't combust too well, thus water in the block causes the rods to bend and possibly snap.
i just happen to throw a rod through the block.
so it looks that way.

oh, you know it!

no sense in getting the same thing or even worse, downgrading.

for now i'm driving my '04 Sentra Se-R while the Lanswer is in the shop awaiting the verdict.

still keeping my eyes open for a new toy.
i'd love to pick up an '05 SSL EVO 8.
so thats what i'm looking at.

EXHAUST SIDE:

INTAKE SIDE:

went to the shop thats dropping in the motor today and they were in the process of taking off the intake manifold etc. and putting it on the new motor.
said the new motor should be in by tomorrow and hopefully all goes well.
also verified that my clutch is minutes away from dying so i'm going to have to handle thatttt.
