Short Shifter question.

This question is particularly about my car, the Lancer, but I figure this might be a general question and want to post it here. Do the Lancer and Evo X shifters share the same platform as earlier Lancer and Evo models? I'm looking at getting a short shifter and based on the pictures they look the same as the old Evo platform, but I want to be sure.

Hi cmbjive,

The 2008+ Lancer and Evo actually has a different shifter than the older generations of Lancer.

Here is the correct short shifter for a Evo X:
Evo X short shifter

And the correct one for a 5 speed Evo 8 and 9:
Evo 8 and 9 short shifter

I hope this helps!

First person I've heard this from. Must have been user error

My short shifter has been one of my favorite mods. Affordable and gives the car an instant sporty feel

All my friends get short shifters and it just makes the car more exciting because of the shifting pattern

I've had zero problems with my TWM short shifter. Love it with my aluminum evo knob.

This is one of the common myths around short shifters, but there are hundreds of articles proving this to be wrong. If you understand the simple geometry behind a short shifter and how it works, you will understand that it is physically impossible for a short shifter to damage a transmission in any way.

Here's a quick article on short shifters for you:
