Engine Swap Turbo, worth it? NEED HELP

Well I need some help, but to start I am just starting to learn about cars more and trying my best to learn online because I have no one to teach me in person, but the fact that I dont know too much about cars yet is the reason why I need to ask this question.

I have a 2003 OZ Rally. I plan on getting an engine swap for the 4G64 2.4L engine, the one that you find in the Galants or Eclipse I believe. WHen i Do this I am going to buy stronger internals and stuff like that and then I am going to buy a turbo, and everything that I need to make it work well, and then get it alllll put in. I am guessing its going to take 4000 dollars to do this.... But what I want to know is after this is done, is it possible for my car to be as fast or at least pretty close to as fast as a stock evo???

If anyone knowledgable could answer this question with close accuracy that would be sooooo much help, AND if someone knows a better option that i could do then getting that engine swap which will give me approximately 165 hp @ 6500 RPMS, then please tell me because then I will switch up my plan.

I know it was alot but thanks to everyone.

No one is answering maybe because of confusion, so maybe to ease the confusion Ill add that I want it to be as fast as a 2005 evolution.

But Im not going to be a dick about it. If youre "new to the car thing" and youre trying to teach yourself your first thing to do here is search and read.

#1 There are plenty of threads here that will make you more knowledgeable about our cars but seeing as you are posting this Im taking it you didnt bother to read one of the stickies right above this post so a good place to start is the 2002-2006 Lancer Super FAQ. That will get you started. From there READ the other stickies in the engine tech forums. Id refrain from posting a new thread until you do a great deal of reading and searching.

#2 If youre guessing its obvious you havent tried to do any research on what you drive but the good news is youve come to the right place to learn. Any of the guys here are going to suggest you read and stuff before anything. Motor swap and guessing do not go in the same sentence.

#3 Is it possible for a lancer to be as fast as a stock Evo? Yes. Im not going to say how because I dont want to fill you up with dreams you dont know how to fulfill. But that question has been answered, shown, and put to rest a long time ago.

#4 Where the hell did those numbers come from? What significance do they hold? And if thats all youre shooting for doing an engine swap that gives me the stank face.

So at the end...read and search and youre not driving a Honda so we're not taking simular paths for power. Good luck

hes not being dick to be honest I was a noob doing the same thing until someone told me to do your research, so I stop asking and started reading, then I was able to ask questions to reinsure what I read made sense.

I started out from having an N/A car with CAI "cold air intake" and exhaust to a turbo charged lancer running 17 pounds on stock internals

oh yeah and my car is making the same power as an evolution... so if you want to be as fast as an evolution start reading. Theres only a few people here that is close to a lancer evolution or surpassing it

and JRR but he is a traitor lol

If im missing anyone making 230 whp at least im sorry I will add you on my list

edit** if I dont get this evo im keeping this car and putting the 4G64 with an evo 8 head on it. the only thing I dont like about the lancer is the traction fwd is just horrible

Well I didnt start to read because I didnt know my way around the forums yet... sorry... and those numbers that i got from the engine swap is from me actually reading somenoe elses thread who got that same engine swap and said they preferred it, and thats what he put down on his thread....

I also looked at other threads but I couldnt find anyone who specifically said how fast there car was after it was turboed, like no one still diid.... so I was just saying i understand your not trying to be a dick but I also was new so I am sorry for being so nooby lol

from an evo owner, imo if youre going to shell out that much money just to be as fast as an evo, just buy one. imo sounds like you have the cash for it. there are some used evos out there that are cheap and in good nick. but if you wanna learn about cars then go for the engine work and turbo. but realize in the end there only so much potential for power and you wont go big on it without spending more money.

You won't likely listen to the best advice you're given but if you are going to spend 4k into this motor swap and another 3+k later on a turbo, just sell it and buy an evo. You can come up with any excuse not to, insurance premiums, can't afford it, etc but that is your best bet. If you can't quite afford it yet, just save up and do swap your motor.

Again, you probably won't listen to me but you're about to open a can of worms that you have no idea how to deal with. Motor swap. Turbo'ing a car that is NA from the factory. You're going to run into a lot of problems that you'll have no idea how to deal with. I know because I've been there.

If you continue on this path with the OZ, you're going to throw good money after bad.

sounds like a typical response from a evo owner
