Why God Why

I got RRM headers, testpipe, and Intake as a present to myself. I was so excited. I got them installed by a friend and I was ready to test them out. Well my custom exhaust went from this low growl that was just amazing to this pissed off bumble bee. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get some rumble back. I was thinking a Magnaflow Muffler might help but at this point I am not sure. Why God Why, I am a Ricer........................

the header is what changed it to the ricer note. toss in a resonator or a different muffler.

I like it loud, will a resonator make it quiet? I had the muffler for awhile now, I was thinking of going to a magnaflow muffler, but i have heard that they aren't loud. I need something to hear over my system lol.

It's the test pipe. a few TLNW members were complaining about the "Rice Bee" sound. Test pipe goes away, so does the sound. According to a couple of butt dynos, they got some power back, too.

Every account I've heard/read has said that too. The header does change the sound significantly like Vince said, but the key to it all seems to be the test pipe. Apparently the cat baffles sounds more than we knew.

I think this is the most logical solution. Most people w/ exhaust work tend to hack out their resonator.

So you guys think a resonator or just take out the testpipe? I still have the stock cat. But I would prefer to keep the testpipe but if the resonator won't help much the testpipe will have to go. I was honestly thinking about getting a big RICER sticker and put on my windshield.

the test pipe has to go. With the cat back you will have some backpressure and might gain more power, and you will definitely lose the bee sound. I had the same prob with my other car.

Just get rid of the testpipe. Sorry about the purchase, but what its like $70. Oh well. You will get some of the low rumble back.

The testpipe really isnt going to give you much power anyways. And you will be keeping the air cleaner with your cat.

And when you start powering a 4cyl car, that is what you get, a higher sound.

my exhaust right now is wide open except for a resonator, and it really isnt bad, i think it sounds pretty good, but i am replacing the test pipe with a hi-flow cat... gettin way too stinky for me, and when my car shifts i see enormous amounts of smoke pour out the back, upgrading piping diamater might help a little (ie get a downpipe)

if u get the 'ricer' sticker....remember to take an old folgers coffee can and put it on ur exhaust tip, make sure its the real folgers, i heard they are like 30 whp!

u said u had the old cat. just swap the test pipe for the cat. and see how it sounds that way, if u dont like it, get a resonator and see how it is with and without the test pipe.

I run the Kamikaze Header and DP into the stock catalytic into 2.25" piping catback through two straight through magnaflows: Magnaflow 4"round X 14" straight through "resonator", Magnaflow 4"x9"x19" straight through muffler.

The sound is pretty decent with the headers. It's louder than it was before and it has a bit of a "raw" note to it if you are outside the car and you rev it without a load (aka not actually accelerating the car). But otherwise it sounds very clean and performance. Just a smooth relatively deep exhaust pitch. Very nice, and likeable. Sounds very good. If it wasn't so cold I'd try and get new recordings of it... but you can listen to what the exhaust sounded like before I put the header on (the pitch/sound didn't change much.. just the added rawness and some levels and being louder) at my old thread of:
