you can easily make up for the power loss, but you can't make up for the poor gear ratio, even if you adjust it, we still only have 4 speed to work with.

I've never had a problem with keeping my car past shifting.

Supposeably there's a fuel cut off (I read in some mag) that hits at 6.3k and that the auto shifts at 6 for that reason when driven hard. Is that true?

Plus, I've also been told by someone that the Auto has an adaptive ECU that, if driven hard perviously to the race, will shift more like an auto. Is that true? I know if I drive my auto hard and then drive it nicely it will sit at around rev up to around 3.5k before shifting since it thinks I'll need the power .

Now, force shift means starting with your car in 1, then as you accelerate towards 6.5 push it into 2, let off the gas, feel thegears change and hit the gas again. Repeat up through drive.

I've also seen noticed that if I'm driving my car hard, it will shift down to around 3.5k which is right around where we get the most power. Yes, it is slow in 3rd, but if you drive through second just right, I've been able to do pretty well when passing.

BTW, none of these things above are tested, but just what I have seen, if I stated wrong, please correct. Also, I don't race so I don't know how well it does at the track or against anything but BMWs, which I held with through traffic.

My .02 Cents..

I've seen such experience of people shifting auto. There are enough 1.5 liter mirages who believe shifting their auto is the fastest thing since slice bread. When they received their first tranny repair bill, they don't stop until the 3rd repair build within two years.

Torching a clutch is very cost effective. Torching the gears on the auto isn't very smart. Hell, even 2g NT guys reccomend such practice on their tranny, obviously they haven't seen results from a bunch of HS'ers in S-10 column shifting their 4 banger w/ impunity.

Again, those guys with torched auto tranny will never admit they screwed up their car.

well i usually don't shift, just in those red light to red light races and the speed limit is like 45ish i guess where the race stops at 60 usually....those are most of my races....anyways if its a long streth i have it in 3rd and just let it go...than once i reach the top of 3rd i let off and put it in D and just go on my way

yea i learned how to drive stick before i got my car...i bought mine used and waited for a yellow 5spd for the longest time, dealer never got one in so i just got an auto when they got one in...plus my dad wanted me to have an auto cause he doesn't drive stick and it would just make things easier...i had the choice between a '95 5spd teggie gsr or the auto lancer...i love lancers - gotta love the rally cars - so it was a no brainer for me...i do regret not getting stick, but i'm ready for an evo whenever i can afford one...the car's still quick in 1st and 3rd...problem is you never get to feel the power in 3rd too much when the speed limit's 55 where you live and you cant go much more than 10 over...2nd is long, slow, and painful at times but its all good...either way its a lancer...gotta love it

Shifting in an automatic is fine. In fact sometimes a car's Owner's Manual suggests doing this.

Quoted from an actual 95 Civic EX Auto Owners manual: "By shifting through 1,2,D3,D4, you can operate this transmission much like a manual transmission without a clutch pedal"

anyone else with an auto see this?
Mine does that too, but that's not a bad thing seeing as how our powerband is right around 3500 rpms.

And I've said it countless times, but I've seen an auto lancer beat a manual lancer with similar mods bolted on. I think we have it on video too. Maybe.

And by manushifting the auto, I'm talking about staying in 1 and 2 till it goes past it's normal shift point but clicking up before it gets near redline (around 5k and it'll ride all the way up to the limiter till it shifts). It produces the same effect as resetting your ecu and remapping the shift points to a more agressive one.

The "automatic shiftin is bad" comment wasnt posted just about Lancers but automatics in general. So i used an automatic in general: My old car.

thereasonsf3, Im probably gonna change my avatar soon anyways. Ive got a nice Cartoon style pic of a Lancer that I drew. (Trust me, its pretty dope).

Hey, just wanted t let u know about a run me and my friend had. I have an AT with an intake and exhaust. He had a MT with intake and 17' wheels. He spanked me off of the line, but i think i would be able to catch him if we kept running. I was running in third. O well got to get some more mods.
