how is the torque converter? did u do ur own install? i was thinking about it, but the 500 bux for it and the 200 dollar install seemed a bit much and i thought i qould get something better, like piggy back (when i get the money)

ya 700$ for a torque converter is a little much, but i dunno, if it is worth it , and will make a auto keep up with a 5spd ** stock vs. stock ** would do it in a heart beat.

it will make an auto keep up with stick!!! it gives you back about 7 percent of the power the tranny used to suck from you. my buddy is a tranny mechanic so he hooked me up on install. before you do this i would recomend the rrm piggy back. thats just me though. like i said the one i had was toooo torquey so level ten is making one that will give 7% power back not 10% like mine was. you have to send in the entire flexplate asssembly with this. if anyone wants to get a group buy let me know, just pm me. someone started one a while back but it wasn't worth it if i get a big enough response i will c bout hookn us up with a better deal on the new tq converters

Actually all you have to send is the torque converter itself as all they do is cut it open, change the stator out, change the fin angles on the turbine and pump, change out the needle bearings and furnace braze the fins for strength.

And the main advantage of the torque converter is that at launch you will be closer to your powerband, especially if you are turbo as it raises your stall speed from ~2600 to ~2900 or whatever you specify.

As for the power you loose, I am sorry but you are still loosing it untill your lock-up clutch engages, this is just the effect of fluid coupling, grandted with an upgraded stator you are running more efficient but you are still loosing some. However the multiplying effect of the new stator does help cover the difference and in some cases, depending how good the rebuilder is can both cover and over come this loss of power.

$200 for install seems correct as to get to the torque converter thewhole tranny has to be taken off the engine as the torque converter is what couples the output shaft of the engine to the input shaft of the transmission.

I will agree that a well designed torque converter will increase launch speed and such but it will also increase ATF temp and thus should be a factor considered when installed. An ATF cooler might be a wise investement as they are only about 30-50 dollars and can save the life of your transmission.

Gesh, might as well save up 1 grand and call it a day when considering buying one of these.

hey, is it safe to shift an auto into the neutral position while driving? i had to do this once because gas was on E and i had awhile to get to a gas station so i accelarated and put it in neutral let it ride, then shifted back and pressed it again, any info???

i'm pretty sure it's ok to do that unless you're on the gas when putting it back into drive...otherwise it should be alright

also OK it is just down shifting like you would in a manual. although it is not a good idea to drive your stick like a manual, e.g. put it in 1 then 2 then 3 then D every time and downshift everytime you come to a stop. That just burns out your tranny faster.

Now if you do it every now and then you are fine.
