Auto Vs Manual?
In the OZ that i have, when i did take it out for a spin, when my foot was on the pedal half way...i noticed that the transmission on first gear wouldn't switch till 5500 rpms. It was strange. We have 2 lancers, one is a 2002 ES, the other is a 2003 OZ. The ES feels completely different. The ES would switch at 3000 on first with the pedal half way down. The ES felt slower or heavier. It could be the 20,000 mile difference. The OZ is 8 months old with only 2,300 miles on it. The ES has 22,000 miles on it. But with the ES, the engine is already cracked in. The OZ, im not sure, but i redlined the oz at 6200 rpms a couple of times on L or first gear at 27 mph. BTW, the OZ and ES are automatic. Thats a bummer, but hey....its runs pretty good. The OZ feels like it has more a punch when you push the gas but I dont know why. Even though both cars have the same spec. The OZ runs great though, pretty quick. When my dad drove the OZ compared to his normal car, the ES, he said the OZ is faster. He also said that the ES, when merging on to the highway is quite slow. But then again, my dad is 54 years old and is afraid to push the pedal all the way down lol. I don't think Auto or Manual makes a big difference though.
Lol, sorry to laugh but I think all of it is in your head, if anything the OZ is heavier with the lipkit. When I was stock(Proped open airbox) my es was beating other lancers including ozs, I think its all in your head.
hey on the autos running in third turns off overdrive (correct me if i am wrong on anything please). Is there a problem with running in with running in thrid all the time? and will it hurt the tranny to switch to 3rd when i want that "boost" in power and go back to drive for normal driving? I hate that we cant get a great launch on the autos, but o well.
i dunno i always do that fake automatic shifting, i hope i dont mess up smoething real bad someday though.
i just wish i got my car like a year later so icould have the sportronic

wait they have sportonic on the 2004's??? yeah i think it might mess it up doing the shifting thig... because u actually are going through the gears and going from drive to third and back only turns off the overdrive... im not sure though.
again im still a noob, but this kinda helps... http://auto.howstuffworks.com/automa...nsmission6.htm
yeah sorry i was getting kicked off of the computer at the time, but u can better control which gear u are in, and i know for a fact when in third v.s drive it kicks harder when i am going and press the gas. Doesnt make a diff. when goin from the line, because if u keep the pedal down u can in essence push it to near redline and if that happens overdrive isnt on anyway. Oh, btw even in florida this cold weather is great my car is so much peppier.
"Very nice link.... a NOOB solved a problem?? "~tanner65
haha yeah... i figure i can learn the most by reading and i wont get attacked by all the evolved members when posting redundant questions.

^ may have solved a problem, but doest know how to use the quote button hehe
just givin you a hard time
Ya, it kicks harder when you have your car in 3 because if you going lets say 40 in 3 you are in a higher RPM range, and the higher rpm's your at the more HP and torque you get. so in essence you feel a stronger "kick"

sweet, thanx for the technical explination... i knew it did it, but didnt know why. Oh by the way. I wrote the response in the box below, before realizing if i didnt include the quote no one would know what i was talking about, so i decided not to erase and go to the page with the quote button... naw but its cool about the hard time. how long does it take to become an evolving member?
