Intake concern...moved to correct forum
Hey all, so heres the deal, went to a local shop and picked up an intake that has the mitsu adapter built into the metal on the rear of it. So being the impatient *** that I am I slapped it on the car last night about 10 o'clock. Now heres my concern about this whole thing. I take the air box and air funnel out from near the grill and attach the intake right to the MAS and it seems to bolt right up to it and that all good however, theres a lot of room in there now and the filter isn't bolted securely to anything so it moved around a bit and i'm sure more when i'm going over rough terrain. I'm concerned about how much strain its putting on the rest of the system by moving around like that. Its pretty much wide open right now so I think a heat shielf would be good and I would like to find a way to re-integrate the air funnel back in so I can at least take some cooler air direct from the outside. Also keep in mind i've got an auto tranny. Concerns, advise, bring it all, thanks again.
well that air "funnel" dead ends up against sheet metal which is one thing I've never undertsood. I'msure it probably stil picks up some cooler air, but it's not like it is getting any kind of "ram air" effect... just so you are aware of that.
It would be advisable to have it mounted in some way as those bellows on the intake tubing can and will crack if stressed enough.
Heat shields are a good way to go, if you can get some sheet metal just bend up some portions and then fix them together and then bolt it down to the old air box mounting brackets.

talk to RRM and ask if you could buy a heatshield and a bracket to hold the intake in place. the plastic funnel wont really do much for you because its still hidden behind the grill of the hood which may restrict airflow a little bit. although it may bring in a 'little' more cooler air, your car will still bog from time to time in the summer since it is a short ram. the best thing you could do is buy a dryer hose from home depot and run it from the front of your intake and down to the vent on the bottom of the bumper. its almost like a cai setup, but not really.. hehe. or what some people refer to as the 'god cai'..
some people here have done it.. search and you will find..

Either see if you can buy the RRM heatshield, or run a search for custom heat shield... one of our Canadian members (can't remember which) built a heat shield from scratch himself and posted a whole thread on it.
