Newbee checking in...

New to the forum. purchased a 2002 Lancer LS for my teenage daughter so getting acquainted with these cars. Have always loved the Lancers and Evo's so was happy when she liked my pick for her.

Want to thank jtc on here for his write up on changing the bulbs in the console. he was spot on. the shifter bulb for the auto was out and I can get the console out in 5 minutes now thanx to him. I really appreciate your writeup!!!

From my avatar, you can see I drive a Cobra Mustang, but I am a car guy, I don't care if it is American or import...cool is cool.

Still learning about these oddities about the car....the battery light and brake light are on. I read that usually means the alternator or battery. this car has a new both so not sure what else it could be. also, has a code for either the O2 sensor or cat. gotta run that down. also need to find a source for body trim...need the drip moldings as they are in bad shape with the black peeled off.

Anyway, thanx for any input and I am looking forward to learning this car. she wanted an EVO wing on it, so I already got it..just got get it painted and then I will mount it.

Brakes are next.

The brake light could mean the brake fluid level is low. And welcome!

Thanx!!! Having read what the two together usually meant...didn't think to check that but I will. easy to get caught up in the difficult stuff instead of checking the easy first. appreciate the reminder!!!!!!!

The fluid could very well be fine but you could have air in your lines. I've seen that trigger the light too.

thanx, will be dealing with the brakes anyway as they are making a scraping noise although I don't see any indication on the rotor of it.

also, does anyone know if there is a way to tell if this car is equipped to take remote entry so i could get one and program it. also the wheel width of the wheels in the photo. thanx.

I'm fairly certain all models have keyless entry, certainly the LS would I think. Here's the how to program the fobs, if you get one off eBay, make sure you don't get the one with panic or trunk buttons on it.

No idea on the wheels there though, what size tires are on it?

called the local dealer for a Saturday appointment last week. went in, after being there an hour...told the tech who does the computer reflash (TSB recall) called in sick so he couldn't do it. Nice, thanks for telling me after I had been there that long. in the meantime, said a second recall for the cooling fan controller was also there so they did that and cleared the P0421 code that I went in for.

Was told while I was there the rims are 6" wide on that wheel.

went back yesterday for the second appointment and they did the reflash and said the converter was all right. today, the CEL was back on..same code. Gotta find out if they checked the 02 sensor or not. Also, found out the brake and battery light lit because the alternator in the car is putting out over 15 volts.

used car...expect t his stuff. oh, also, if the parts guy told me right, the right rear liner is called a splash shield (aka inner fender liner) and is only $17. ordered it..hope he was right on the part. evo wing in for paint.

Thanx!!! It's easy though...love my kids and love cars!!!

Started a build for my son who isn't driving yet. he loves the Impala in Supernatural (67 Impala) , couldn't find one of those for the right price, so got a 1967 Olds Cutlass we are redoing so I can teach him about cars and make it something at least similar. got a full tubular front control arm set with a power disc brake conversion to put in the front end. that's first...needs to stop and handle decent for an old car.

I let her look at different options and she opted for the EVO wing. I think the lip is nice too.
