Lancer Theft

Has anyone had any problems with their car getting broken in to ?

Is it worth getting an alarm system put in ?... or is the car hard to get into and stealing ?

Anyone have any sad stories of their car getting violated by crooks ?

I'd say if you have expensive stuff in the car it's worth getting an alarm. As far as theft, I think most thieves would take a nearby beamer over a lancer.

Acutally i guess more car thefts occure with medium priced cars like ours, but actually i havnt heard of any car thefts w/ our cars. if u do have a nice system then u might want to get a alarm system but if u dont then it probably doenst matter.

I put new Hyperblack 17X7 Motegi rims on my car and the night before I had my alarm installed. It's the Viper 791XV with remote start. It's probably one ofthe best investments I've made with my car. The riims and tires cost $1,200 and I spent $300 to purchase and installed since I work at best buy. I plan on putting more in too though. Ther's a lot of theft in the area in which live, so I bought it for that and remote start.

if you plan to keep your lancer stock i wouldnt waste the money on any kind of alarm bcuz i dont think a theif would choose a lancer over anything unless you left the door open with the key in the ignition and left for the day....now if you plan on modding it out i would def. get an alarm just to be safe, because the nicer you make it look the more ppl are gonna wanna steal it, i had the alarm installed after my first set of rims and ive caught a few ppl trying to break into my car in the middle of the night due to my alarm going off...

Well, you have to buy a motion sensor/tilt sensor or (as Directed calls it) an Invisibeam Field disturbance sensor. Essentially, if anyone were to get to close to you car with the latter installed, it would squeel a bit and if theydon' move, then go off completely. I have the motion/tilt sensor and when they went to retorque my lug nuts my alarm went off after the second lug. So, if that tells you what you need to know, then good!

If you're looking into remote start/two way alarms, that category is mostly dominated by Directed Electronics . But, do a bit of shopping first so you get what you want; I shopped for about 2 months before I decided on the alarm and rims I wanted.

Yeah i have a sweet all infinity kappa/perfect system in my car with some basic mods and i bought they same alarm as the last guy with the viper except i dont have remote start because i have a manual. I love the alarm. I work at circuit city and almost everyones car gets broken into. If you are gonna get one i would recommend buying it online and then having a car stereo place install it, it will be a lot cheaper that way.

Oh also, get one of the responder systems. The alarm pad vibrates or rings when the alarm is going off. i think an alarm without this is pretty much worthless

i think all cars, new, should have an alarm system to deter the thief from actually even trying to break in. it doesn't matter whether u have a king shyt sound system, rims or nothing at all.

actually, i hear the lancer is really easy to steal, dunno if thats true.

my friend's **** box 1986 ford tempo, or w/e it was, got stolen in broad daylight in the parking lot of a busy walmart. i can say that it is funny, but it really aint when this **** happens to you.

i got some valuables on mine so i'm not taking any risks. i got a computerstar on mine, 2 way pager/alarm.

**beware, if u get a pager alarm, it's gonna litterally drive u nutz and paranoid, u'll know why when u get one.**

If you cant afford to have your car stolen, but can invest in an alarm, then consider it if you think you are in a risky area. Here is my story.

Im a student at Pitt and live about 2 miles from campus in north east Pittsburgh. Parking is tough here since it is semi residental, semi commercial zoning. Anyway, someone has tried to break into my 2002 ES (nearly stock) 4 times in the past 2 weeks.
I have a Black Widow remote starter/alarms sytem with a FM-pager on my keychain. If I didnt have this, my car would be long gone! The scum did give me 4 or 5 good sized nicks and dents above the driver door on the body, lots of scratches on the inner door frame, and a 6" scrape on the interior above the driver side back seat, where they scraped a jimmy when they got it in. With my alarm, even if they got in, they couldnt get the car stared without totally removing the alarm and rewiring the car....while it is beeping and flashing.

But here is the funny part. While it got hit all 4 times, it was parked RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from a porshe dealership! Not only that, but the open lot I was in is also used to park some rentals cars AVIS Car rentals!! And the porshe place uses this lot too! $250,000 cars that can try to take, and they screw /w my lancer. wtf!

Anyway, a side question:
Can I claim this on my insurance under comprehensive damage? Would that make my rates go up? I dont see why it should, but insurance co's are blood suckers (like meter maids).
