GPS Updates?

I'm curious - is there any way to update the GPS system in the 08 Lancer? It seems logical that there would be - roads change, after all, so you'd think that Mitsubishi would have come up with a way to update the system. Has anyone who's bought a 08 Lancer with the GPS asked or read in their manual how this is done?

Yes you go to the dealer when an update is released and they download it to the car via that flash memory looking slot under the screen. There is also a CDDB database upgrade for newer CDs that are coming out. Most manufactures put those online so you can write them to a CD. I can't find one for the Lancer yet. That you just place into the CD drive and go to the Mode screen and another small button at the bottom appears to let you update you store Database.

There are a couple roads that need updated in my area. The nav system have me running though a field the other night and it kept telling me to turn around...hahaha

Kinda like that Nationwide commercial where the GPS tells the guy to turn into the restaurant!

The map updates are DVD based and will be available for purchase through the dealers according to the MMCS manual.

I hear it's pretty pricey if you go to the dealer to get it updated. I'm waiting on someone who puts it on megaupload so I can just burn it and install it (if that'll ever happen).

No way that will ever happen unless a patch is developed. The updates are written to a dvd, and have a "key" that corresponds with each specific disk. The key plugs into the 3.5 mm jack you may notice on the bottom of the screen when it is open. The updates will run you anywhere from $75-$125 depending on your source. The stock maps are 2006, and the current update only goes to late 2006, maybe early 2007. Apparently Mits isn't concerned too much with providing updates....

My local Mitsu dealer quoted me $112 for the DVD.

Considering how when I look at the version info on mine it says 2006, and last time I checked, I bought my 08 Lancer this past January, it should be a free upgrade.

But who said the world was fair, right?
