side mirror button removal

Does anyone know how to remove the side mirror control button from the plastic dash piece? I'm attempting to repaint my interior and I cannot get these two parts to separate. Thanks!

Mods- I posted this incorrectly in the How To forum. Could you please delete the other one? Sorry, thanks

If memory serves me correctly, you have to take out the guage surround piece, and that part just pulls out. Then you just take it and use a flat head screw driver to get it out of the snaps and voila

are you referring to the small wooden piece (es) that encasses the side mirror buttons, or the actual square side mirror button inside that piece? I've gotten the piece next to the gauage cluster free, but the mirror buttons inside it are the ones I'm trying to remove? It's really in there, can I use a flathead?

Yeh, if you look at it from the back, you can see it's just snapped into the 'wooden' piece you refer to. You should be able to carefully use a small flathead screwdriver to loosen one side and push it out. Just don't break the snap in part thing, or else you're screwed

Thanks! I'll give it a shot

Quick question, how exactly does it snap out? does it separate into two pieces?

Ok, that was interesting. It does not come out in two pieces. The whole thing can be pushed through the back by using a flathead to press (or in my case destroy) one of the four little nudge of plastic that keeps it in place behind it. If you are impatient, like me, you may find yourself reassembling the actual electronics of the mirror controls. Luckily, those were not damaged and I could figure it out. All done!

Thanks for the help!
