Hey guys, im interested in also painting my bumper and have a question about the sanding process. I read that you need to wet it while sanding, is this a continuous spray? or just to wash off the residue. Anyone have pictures of the sanding process besides the set up? Does anyone know have pictures of what it will look like for graphite grey lancers?

Go to page 8 of this thread and scroll down midway. It's done in vinyl but it'll look the same with paint.

I think im interested in doing the vinyl installation. For those who did this, can you tell me how to install the viny, especially on the chrome grill part?

Also, since im a big NEWBIE, is there any benefits from installing vinyl vs painting?
Because the sanding part doesnt really sound too great to me

Continually keep the sandpaper and the surface you're sanding wet.
This was mine after, taken with my cellphone:

Definitely. Sand everything that's going to be painted.

The only benefit would be that you can take it off.

The drawback is it's much less durable than doing it the harder way of sand, clean with a degreaser, tape off, prime with an etching primer, and paint with something very similar to DuPoint's bumper paint.

Painting it isn't cheap, nor should it end up that way. If it only cost a few bucks and the products were new, I'd be scared.

I paid $40 for the DuPont primer & paint spraybombs, but this stuff is incredibly durable and is built to last. It's also quite toxic, so definitely abide by proper booth painting practice -- use a ventilator and goggles to protect airborne sediment on your eyes.
Side note, I would never personally use Dupli-Colour products for this. The experience I've had with their other expensive paints, is that they're built more for hobby and not wear & tear.

So it depends on your intentions. If you don't feel like putting much effort into it, and want it removable for whatever reason (selling, bored of look), then go Vinyl. Be prepared to have to a replacement schedule -- especially if you live in a climatically variable location or place where every road doesn't have fresh asphalt laid down each month and only tiny bugs.

Alright, i have a free day this coming week and want to finally paint the front bumper. I ahve some last questions to ask.

Do we need any primer or anything, or does dupli color have it all?
Also, instead of sanding does paint stripping spray work?

Sand Everyting if you're planning on painting. the reason you sand isn't to take any paint off, but it's to give your new paint something to attach too. It creates all these nooks and crannies for paint particles to attach too, thus give you a "more firmly" attached coat of paint.

looks great YeOldeLancer, was it difficult to install vinyl? especially on the grill?
thanks!

The vinyl on the front bumper was pretty easy to install. Just clean it up really nice with rubbing alcohol. Cut a piece big enough to overlap the whole section. you can always trim it later. the stretch and rub it on. I used a towel to rub because my hands were getting sweaty. Then you can go back and trim it.

Honestly, for the grill, I ended up peeling off the vinyl and painting it anyway, just because the vinyl was starting to peel back you I could see the parts where I cut and pieced together. just sand it, clean it with rubbing alcohol and spray with flat black paint. thin coats and it it dry completely before reinstalling. The last thing you want to do and install it too early and rub of paint or chip it. Good luck!
