Painting stock wheels
#16
Hey Rav. If I were you i would go with gloss black. Why? Because when you wash your car and it is nice and shiny and a good coat of armor on the wheels it will ALL shine....Thats what I like. With flat black (although flat black is an awesome color on some cars) it wont give that clean shiny just waxed look. It will look dull. Just my 2 cents and personal opinion.

When you do go to buy the paint, they have this red nozzle thing that fits on top of the spray can. I suggest you get that; It's only a few bucks and it saves you from breaking your fingers off while trying to empty 8 cans of paint.
edit: I also have a question about painting since I'm considering it too.
What would be a good outside temperature to do all this work?
What do people think about flat black v. semigloss black v. gloss black on a blue gts?
Thanks everyone.

rav, anything above 45 is fine. let about 10-15 minute for each coat to dry. i would say go for the most glossiest black you can find. once i finish my car project, i'm gonna show it on this forum! pretty ricey, but i think people will like it. any questions PM me. i spray painted my rims, it was the sexiest thing alive. imo =)

I think it would be a good idea to lightly sand the wheel before applying the primer. (Maybe around 320grit paper.)
Question! I went around looking for paint and I had a choice between Duplicolor Wheel paint (hint: wheel) and Duplicolor SUV,Car,etc. regular paint. The problem is the wheel paint isn't as glossy as the regular paint, but it lasts longer/strong then the regular. Any opinions on this situation?!

I've done some research on powdercoating now... found a place in Toronto to do it but waiting for price quote, but I've heard horrible stuff about powder coating rims and how they can potentially destroy the rims and make them crack o.O !!!
I think it's due to the high temperature needed to powder coat (around 400 degrees celcius) and that's not good for the rims, causing it to crack over a period of time.
Is there any truth to that?
