Upgrading

I have an 03 Lancer ES, and was wondering what I should get for it. I was thinking the big thing would be to change out the engine for an Evo, but what year should I do it with? Also, how hard would it be to change the tranny from auto to manual? I'd need to install a shifter, as well as a clutch pedal, but what else would I need?

tranny is not that hard but you have to fab and or weld cause is going to be bigger i think not really to sure, just make sure you google and ask some evo member here for more info, by the time you finish you will think about getting a evo

save yourself the hassle and just get a turbo kit for the one you have, and if you really want a manual i would say go buy one, is a pain to change an auto for a manual, but anything can be done with enough $$$$$ and time.

i can't believe you're even getting serious responses. This is just a rediculous idea. If all you can afford is an old lancer es auto then don't even bother spending the cash to modify the crap out of it. Just the idea of this swap alone would set you back thousands of dollars and tons of time and heartache. Just go buy a 2003 Evo for about 15k and you'll be miles ahead of what you're trying to accomplish the hard way.

If you didn't even know the Evo is AWD, you shouldn't mod at all. I suggest you start by reading the FAQ linked in my sig.

None of the things you listed is going to be easy even for a seasoned mechanic.

Best bet is to get a turbo kit. You'll be able to double horsepower without puting in new internals.
