Question about an Evo Gauge Cluster

Hi,

Well I tried searching for this, but couldn't really find a direct answer, but awhile back (year ago I think), I had installed an Evo 8 gauge/cluster/odometer in my 02 ES. Which works and all rpms, mph, and fuel tank. But it just dawned on me (since I just installed a new radiator) that will the temperature gauge still show the correct temp readings for my car? You know, the Hot and Cold one? Cause mine always stays just right below the middle, even before I put in the new radiator, even on the hottest days, stays the same (Is that normal?). I'm just wondering if those are the correct readings or if they are false readings because the gauge might still be thinking its still installed in an Evo 8 under different conditions. I don't know if anyone may have confirmed this for swapping out a 2002-2003 Lancer cluster with an Evo 8 cluster.

I know its kinda probably a straight forward answer...but when it comes to electrical and stuff. Its not really my area, just want to be sure is all and well possibly safe when it comes to temp readings.

(Not sure if will help anyone with an answer, but I did also install an oil temp gauge which goes up to about 200 degrees on a normal day like today being summer an all and the cluster temp gauge barley ever moves.)

Thanx!

temp gauge gets its reading from the thermostat housing so your radiator will not effect the reading

You say the needle sit just below the middle when the engine is fully warmed up? then that's correct.
Also, keep in mind the stock temp gauge is not that accurate at all, it's not really meant to be, as long as the needle doesn't go past to the not part, you are fine, that gauge is there to warn you, not to give you an exact temp reading.

I see, and what is the "not part" ? And yea, im not looking for any "exact" readings, All I want to know is if it gets hot, will my needle go to H rather than just sit there in the middle. I mean when its cold like in winter, then it moves down, but when its hot, well it doesn't really move.

Basically all I had wanted to know was does the Evo 8 cluster read the same temps as an 02 Base Lancer cluster would being that they are plug and play styled

And thank you AF-Evo8 for your input as well.

Haha I meant " hot part ", even if it' hot outside your gauge doesn't have to go up, that's why the radiator and fans exists, to keep the engine temps optimal, no lower nor higher.
The gauge is not car specific, if the wiring from your car plugs in the same as the wiring of the evo, then the cluster gets the signal of the thermostat and shows it accordingly.

lets keep it simple,

Everything will work correctly, your only issue is your speedometer because your lancer won't reach 150 mph, and it will not rev all the way to 9k unless you want to wreck your motor lol
