My Pride, My Lancer, My Problems
Nope, I would go kaboom by now. I'm not really worried anymore about the engine noise. It's a little inconvenience. One theory I have heard was that since there is less space in the cylinder due to bigger piston there is less material to absorb the noise.
Also, if this problem would have anything to do with valves the performance would probably be affected.

So did you try bleeding the lifters? I wonder what our oil pressure is compering to stock compression 4G94??? From all the info I got, a lot of the websites point at the valves, valve guides. But the guy who was rebuilding my engine said he never took the head apart...
i've got a similiar noise.....not as loud as yours but similiar.....does it seem like it comes from near the intake manifold because thats where mine sounds like its originating from. From inside the vehicle it sounds like its coming from right behind the glovebox.
It makes the rattling noise when I'm only on the throttle at around 2000rpms and above. It sounds the way a valve would if it were trying to stay open but can't due to lack of pressure and keeps tapping shut.
I can also hear in mine what I think is an exhaust leak somewhere, but thats another story.
I know I'm not nearly as modded as you but I still get a similar noise. Hopefully we can both figure out what our noises are.

I've seen a couple of guys with this noise... after looking into things i'm wondering if they are gapping the rings correctly upon install.
Seems some are gapping to stock specifications where the ROSS pistons call out different specs, as do JE and even Weisco.
All of them have a different spec than stock and call out making the second ring looser than the first... this is usually not common to do. I know i did it like that and NEVER had that noise. My head had even been decked a few times.

I'd fix it... could have no issues other than the noise and some blowby in the case of excessive gapping.
In the case of under gapping you risk the possibilities of scarring the cylinder and locking up a piston. This could lead to other failures as well.
