i know the feeling. but 2 months is still long. i did it myself, it was my first time doing more than brakes and oil changes, and i did it in 3 weeks with the help of a friend.
Well most of the 2 months has been simply sitting around waiting. Unfortunately when you're in Canada its hard to get parts for a mitsubishi out of the blue, simply getting a new sensor took a week.

^Just when you start the engine. Make sure to adjust the volume. It's really louder when you are inside.

If I remember correctly I told you the mechanic took back off the valve cover, rechecked everything and then upon start up let the car run until the sounds went away. He did rev the engine gently a few times and I think it took like maybe 3-4mins for it to go away.
If it is your pistons then cool but sounds very similar to me.

Thx for the info WADADLIG OZ but what exactly did you mechanic do to get rid of the sound? I still need to do the compression check but I didn't have any time between work and school. I will try to do it ASAP.
Nothing really...he checked to make sure everything was tightened correctly. I never had to take my head off so I don't know if that had something to do with it. It's been a long while now but all I remember is him checking to make sure they were properly reinstalled.
After that he started it back up and I got that ticking sound. It gave me a sickly feeling for a while to think I might have screwed something up, but like I said he let it run for a while. first idling then revving the engine then idle again until it went away.

I wish someone could be here to check things out. Right now it's like an elimination process. Valvetrain, piston/wall clearance, ring improperly gapped??? The compression check should eliminate couple of those options. What really bothers me is why ValveMedic by Gunk made everything nice and quite for about 10mins??? Also, when I take off the oil cap while the engine is running the sound goes away???
I will wait for ambystome01

Maybe you're getting some higher crank case pressure created by the increase in compression. That's why the sound would dissapate when you remove the cap. Take the hose off the side of the valve cover and plug the intake side letting the valve cover vent to atmospher. Do this on the egr as well...
If the sound is gone then a simple easy fix would be a catch can.
Definately will know more when you do the compression test.
