well that's good news. boe if piston rings are gapped improperly wouldnt there be oil consumption or other obvious problems?

not really for na... on a boosted setup you'd see it but NA really doesn't blow by that bad even with a bigger gap. However the piston could be slapping around.

Slapping pistons could affect the cylinder walls and change the compression, vaccume pressure, oil consumption, smoking.

I will do a compression check this saturday in the morning, and I will post the results.

you could have piston slap for years and never have an issue... depend on severity and how you drive the car knowing the fact. The slap usually degrades after longer driving due to the heat expanding the piston and absorbing some of the slop. If the slap scores a cylinder then you run into the host of bad things including possible failure.
