Insurance coverage?
I Just got in a accident and i Messed up my bumper and and side skirts, my insurance is going to pay for my car to get fixed, and i was wondering since i get to pick out my out body shop, if i could get a new after market body kit( apex II, or Evo VII) and if my insurance would cover that
My insurance company would cover the cost minus deductible to bring the car back to what it would be originally... If you talk to the body shop they may quote your reapair a little higher and you wont have to pay as much to upgrade to a new kit.
But in my mind no they wont pay to fully put on a aftermarket kit... you will most likley get the insurance company to cover the rapair..
Example:
Lets say the repair would cost $1000 dollars and you have a $500 deductable
That means you have $500 left they are paying for the repair
Lets say the new kit installed costs $2000 bucks
You would most lilkey pay the extra $1,500 to do that kit

Heres how it would work (asked my agent)
You are in a wreck. The car is appraised for damages. You get several quotes for repair to STOCK form. Usually from the dealer and several private garages.
Once the price is settled upon, the ins. company cuts you a check for the cost minus your deductible. You are free to spend the check however you like. This is why I see beat up Caprices on 19's every day.
There is nothing wrong with using the money for something other than the factory repairs. You might even have some $$$ left over after the kit depending on how much the garages quote the ins. company.

Hmm, sounds like a good way to get custom body work done if you know a good body man, have him quote you super high price, only charge you half to fix it, put the rest into other stuff for the car? Sounds too good to be true if you asked me, but i'll take it any day of the week.
wont work at least here in wa body shops have a set price for there work per hr and so forth insurance companies have a prob which tells how long it takes 2 do the work meaning if it takes shop longer they loose money takes less they gain money simple as that... insurance will pay in my policy for the cost of oem i can go aftermarket like i did and they will cover it if i am in an acident since i added aftermarket coverage 2 my car. Trust me you cant screw insurance and get away very long. If you do they will notice it in there monthly audits.

also they wont cover the time 2 sand it more then what oem takes which is usually less then 2 hrs of work since oem has quality control meaning it will fit without mod. dont try 2 screw insurance pay the extra 2 get aftermarket done right less hassels in long run...
