ok, i've been reading up on this....so, lets see if i get the basic idea, you can (if u want)make a mold using some rubber stuff, then u lay the carbon fiber material in it or on it and cover it with resin and let it harden. That's what it looks like u need to do from reading that web site u put up. Then just wax it and put UV protectant stuff on it? Is that basicly how it's done? Please, i want to know, i'd love to make some for my lancer and my friends cars.

ummmm...yes and no. I wish i could explain it to you, but it's a little bit more complicated than that. At least if you decide to create a mold. I would only do a mold if you are in fact going to make more and possibly plan on selling the part you wanna make. If you are just interested in making a one off type deal, then i would suggest just starting off doing a laminate, or overlay of your stock piece.

wouldn't the overlay make the piece bigger then the stock part? wouldn't it make some kind of fitment issue?

depends on what you are working on. You also have to remember that with an added layer ontop of the exsisting piece, if you are doing an overlay, that the added thickness is very minimal. Not to mention when working on something say like the pillars in the Lancer, like i am doing, there arent any fitment issues, if i added well more than i needed. I could see it coming into consideration when doing something like a dash, but then if you wanted to make a complete replacement dash, good luck! I am going to be working on my dash VERY soon, so once i get work done on that, i will let everyone see what's up with it!

Also, check out the new Super Street, with the Nitrous Express RX-7 on the cover, entire interior is CF. Inspires me....

it's an epoxy resin that i got from US Composites. It's there Medium setup 3:1 ratio. Medium pot life, you get about 30 minutes to an hour before gel time.

you can consider them, full replacements, but no. They just cover the current pieces. You wont be able to remove them though and you can even tell they were stock pieces

so to say that you glued a sheet of CF over your OEM Pillars right? well not literally glued it on...hmmm i cant think of the term...i guess overlay? or laminated a CF sheet onto the OEM Pillars right?

that sounds cool actually sounds easier than making a full CF replacement or a mold or something.

did you roll the edges on your pillars and arm rest? or did you cut them at the edge?...i cant seem to tell [from the pictures] that your pillars are OEM pillars covered with CF you did a good job

well that was the whole point of doing this, was to make it as OEM looking as possible, but in CF.

For your technical term you are correct, is called a cf overlay or a cf lamination.
