Carbon Fiber anyone?

Well after trying to get someone to do some custom carbon fiber work for me, i said screw it and decided to learn it myself and give it a try on my own parts on my lancer. I wanted to do all my pillars in the car so i decided to start with the C-pillars and here is just a glimpse at them in my process, almost done with the coating of the piece, soon i need to just trim and sand and buff. I will have finished pics soon!

that looks awesome!

try and make a full 'carbon fiber body' for the car so we can take off this cheap flaky painted metal body and replace it with carbon fiber =) lol

at this point in time I am still trying to get my technique down. Once i get more comfortable with working with this stuff I might take on some projects, if they are worth it money wise for me. Until now, you guys can wait and see what else i come up with!haha

hey now, lets try not to get to far ahead of ourselves now. CF bodies are a crap load of work! I have talked to some guys and it can take months to get a perfect mold for a CF body.

Now making CF fenders our maybe flares for a wide body is a possiblity....

yes and no...technically its similar to fiberglass in the process, but you have to be extremely careful with the material you are laying. If for some reason you stretch or mess the weave, the entire piece can be destroyed. After doing all my research I have been told that an epoxy resin is best for CF work. A lot of the resin you find at Home Depot or Lowes is a polyester resin and isnt as good of quality. It just takes time, and this weather isnt helping me, i need an oven!

know of any good sites you would suggest for anyone else wanting to learn how to and build their own custom fiber parts?

i hear ya, i did it in summer and drying was quick. i went to boat shops to buy the resin. i hated the whole 'once it touches you it aint comin off' thing about the projects, then having to make small batches at a time became tedious and consumed alot of buckets as well as brushes. i wont go back, im tellin ya. my heart goes out to all the audio installers out there.

how about a CF Lip...like a spoiler lip that would attach to the bottom of ground effects or bumper....

i saw it on a GSX, looked nice. its just like a 1/4" thick mold running along the bottom of his front bumper, i always wanted one but no one makes em for our car. i think that would be pretty cool.

ur best bet would be to make interior carbon fiber dash pieces..so we could replace the interior dash pieces, i see LOTS of people asking for that kinda stuff on here, or is it just me?
