Trunk keyhole?

OK, very soon the keyhole on the trunk will be the only piece of chrome on the outside of the car. I'm wondering (yes, I searched), is there any way to mod it? How well would it respond to paint, etc? I've seen posts about shaving it, but that's not my goal. I would love to paint it black - how well would that work?

primer and paint would stick to it, if you scuff it up a little bit with some 300 or 400 grit, but as soon as a key is put in there, and every time you stick the key in there, it will scratch off paint! So you might be cool if you paint it, and never use the key to open the trunk!

what about using nightshades stuff... for the lights... it creates more of a film than paint.. it might stand up to scratches a little more

Well, I rarely use the key for the trunk anyways. I just don't like the chrome look. Thanks for the tip, I might try it come summertime.

I don't want to shave it. I want to keep it, just not chrome.

that looks really sweet with the camera. i know someone who put a camera in there rear tail light to see when in reverse...because he had 9 12" subs in his rear seat and couldnt see out the back window anymore (he drove a 95 grand am)

so far every post in on shaving........i think u could paint it. yeah its gonna scratch, but if ur careful enough it would be fine. i painted the kick panels down by the pedals and its been down there for like 2-3 weeks now and i hit it all the time with my foot...i looked at it...and wiped it off by hand and looks just like it did when i painted it. so i think it'd be fine. i painted the armrest cover and everyone said it would crack and 2-3 weeks later it hasn't cracked or chipped yet at all
