18" rims and eibachs
#2
Yeah! 17's is the standard or the maximum size... Well, one of the members of this forums has 18's and lowered (Kontradictions), and i guess he doesnt have problems with tires rubbin his fenders... But most guys on this forum will suggest 17's, lowered, coz of that issue, tire rubbing...

the overall size difference between 18" and 17" rims shouldn't vary at all if you get the proper size tires. whether its a 15",16",17",or 18" wheels the outside diameter of tires should never change by much at all.
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
195/60-15 4.6in 12.1in 24.2in 76.1in 833 0.0%
215/35-18 3.0in 12.0in 23.9in 75.2in 843 -1.2%
the only reason you might see a little tire rub is because of the tire width, but it shouldn't be that bad..... feel free to correct me if i'm on the wrong track

This thread is a little redundant, but I'll say it again. It's not as much an issue of what diameter rim you get (like 02Lancer said you just have to get the right size tire), but if you have the wrong offset, then the tires will rub. The Lancer doesn't have that much room, so it is important to get the correct offset for the width of your rim. On the Lancer, a 6" rim needs about a 35-38mm offset. If you get a 7" wide rim, you want about a 41-43mm offset, and I think a 7.5" rim would need a 45-46mm offset. Then you can worry about tire sizes (for an 18" rim, I recommend 215/35/18)

urbanknight is correct, having the right offset is the first thing to check. The whole plus size thing is based on keeping the same Diameter so you can do it. But.. now comes the big but... I would stay with 17" because the sidewall on an 18 starts looking like a rubber band. As I 've said before, at my shop we only recommend going no more than plus 3 in size. You might not have rubbing problems, but you more than likely have wheel breaking problems the first time you slam a pot hole or curb at speed. It can happen with 17's but the smalle the sidewall the more you are asking for trouble.
