Unhappy Problem Will Not Go Away... Please Help

I have a 2003 ES Lancer that has been having transmission problems since day one. It was purchased new and has been in the shop four times. They have put one new transmission in it on the third attempt to fix it, but the problem is still there. The fourth time I took it in I was told that they could not find the problem this time. I wonder if what I am experiencing is normal for the Lancer cars or not. Maybe someone can tell me.

My car has always shifted hard into every gear unless you really put the pedal almost to the floor. You cannot at any point go easy on the car or it will not shift worth crap. Additionally, it hesitates to go into gear when it has been sitting for a while. It also has a slipping (or what feels like a slipping) problem in usually second to third downshifting or first to second upshifting. I also have a severe alignment problem that when purchased I was told to have it aligned. I did this and it still does not work. The wheel will pull to the right noticably.

Sorry for the long posting, I just did not know where else to go. I hope someone here can give me some insights... and yes I am a girl if anyone is wondering...

Thanks

not normal and after 3 tries you can file for the lemon law and get a new car. also is the right hand pulling all the time or just when you start out? if it is when you start out it is called torque steer and normal on a front wheel drive car. if it is all the time you got a problem.

What state are you in? But look into the lemon law more and get yourself a new lancer as that is not normal.

you bought this NEW? why would a brand new car from the dealership need an aligment, i bet someone crashed it, messed it up, and fixed it and sold it. unless its what guru del is talking about. happens alot when you just start off or sometimes when your stopping. as for the shifting part, i dunno. im not entirely sure what you mean. i only have an idea. the lancer tends to have what i have seen called on other cars as an "ON/OFF" feel. like its either all or nothing. when you jam the pedal you get a much faster acceleration, while pushing lightly will do just about nothing. thats normal.

i know what he means about the shifting, my lancer is doing that now..i really have to take it in sometime..

but even with the transmission changed, im REALLY surprised u are still seeing problems. I got the same problem you have after like 25k on the car. And I really agree with everyone else, check the lemon law for your state!

Ha! I've got the same problem....I've taken it to the dealer 3 times and they told me that the "problem could not be duplicated" WTF?!?!?! I'm pretty sure I'm not imagining this. But i've had the hard downshifting and the 'slipping' as you called it. I've also had grinding with mine before as well.
I've had them call the tech line, and they refused to drop the tranny out of the car because the car was so new (at the time, mine was less than a year old) I was driving 100 miles a day in it, so I didn't want to screw around with it....I noticed mine was happening when i got off the highway and was on back roads. It's like it was p*ssed for being off the highway
anyway, it's being 'taken care of' right now....I suggest that you do the same. Every state has a lemon law, and there is a national lemon law as well. There are also lawyers out there that can help you for free (they only get paid if they win you money) if money is tight. Make sure you have all your paperwork, and have documentation for everytime you went in. If not, ask the dealer to make you copies of all the times you've been in. They should have them on the computer. If you think the car was in an accident before, and they lied to you, ask to see the history on the car....that tells you where it was manufacturered, how it was brought in (like car, train, boat....etc)...make sure you know the VIN number of the car, and you can check it out on carfax.com (for a small fee they'll list the history of that car...it's public knowledge.)
There is also an arbitration paper in your manual book...look it over, fill it out, and if you have a lawyer, show it to him/her....
These dealers sometimes like to f*ck you over, and you're a girl...you're an easy target.

good luck.

ps. I'm a chick too....If I found out all this crap, you can too ;-)

possible auto tranny problems
1) did you disconnect the battery?
2) the speed sensor is bad to a certain extent. If so, the cluster should go bad, and the tranny will shift all at the wrong points.
3) no enough or bad or wrong (using syth) tranny fluid . . . for the latter, certain cars don't like syth tranny fluid, because it's too slippery or the chemical tolerance doesn't match factory spec. My bro put mobil 1 syth in his crewcab, and it never really wanted to upshifted. Also, it never shifted to O/D during this period. After switching back to reg tranny fluid, he had no problems.

As for TQ steer, I haven't really driven a lancer yet. TQ steer happens when your accelerate hard, and the steering wheel is about to jerk yours hand off the wheel. The best case: test drive a modern V6 Maxima. Zap it WOT exiting a corner and fight the wheel.

As for the constant alignment issue, check if your A-arms, by taking off the front wheels, are crooked . . . a sign of majorily hitting a curb or something.
