Exclamation Weird acceleration

Met up with some friends last night and had a little meet. On my way home I decided to step on the gas a bit. I was in third gear hitting 2k rpm I was giving it gas and the rpms shot up to 4k really fast and stayed at that rpm . It has done that two other times I have stepped on it, any idea what that is or if that's normal? It's an 02 oz rally
I'm a noob new at this so any input would help thanks.

My lancer used to do that when my input speed sensor was malfunctioning. Would drive fine then give it decent throttle then rpms would jump up and hang.

Mine also has little "hiccups" similar to what you speak of, and speaking of the devil, I just ordered this input/output sensor kit off of ebay for mine today: http://www.ebay.com/itm/350589201673...84.m1497.l2649

From all the advice I've read on here, it seems to be a common problem for them going bad.

EDIT: This is all assuming you have an auto trans...

Do you have a manual or auto? If auto listen to these guys. If manual then your clutch is going out.

Yup new clutch will be needed. Make sure to resurface your flywheel too.
