02-03 lancer trans swap
I have a 2002 and 2003 lancer one is automatic the other manual, can I swap the manual transmission to the automatic one? I have all parts on both cars. What will the issues be if I swap them? I am doing the work myself. Thanks

The automatic car (2002) was in a front end collision that harmed the trans and air box. The manual (2003) has complete internals but the body of the car and the passenger compartment arent in good condition so it's my donor car.

You want to swap a tranny into a car that was in a collision? This request seems really odd. It would easier to buy another car...if both cars are that ****ed up. I mean if the transmission was destroyed by a collision, the chassis is probably a write off, no? What about insurance?
Regardless, the answer is yes you can swap it. Is it going to be very straight forward and simple to do? The answer is no...you have to move the clutch pedal and clutch control system over, whether the holes in the firewall are there in an auto, I don't know there is a couple threads that outline this kind of thing if you had searched for it. you need to move the shifter and linkages, also the center console, because the shifters are different, and then you have to swap the ECU and engine control harness as well...the brake fluid reservoir might be different, or just blocked off but you'll need to get fluid to the master cylinder once that's swapped over...

The automatic does have some front end damage but nothing that I can't fix, the case on the trans broke apart from the engine. I have crappy insurance and they didn't cover my car. I may just buy another but since I already had another parts car I was wondering if I could just swap it over and not have to buy another car.

If the auto is the better car, you may want to see if you can find another auto tranny in the junkyard.

just pick up another car, you can find them for $500 on craigslist
If it was bad enough that the transmission broke from the motor, your car is messed up structurally..... no amount of oh I can fix it, is going to work.....
