concerns of hydrolock
hey all, long time i haven't posted here. so how u all been?
i know we've talked about water going into the engine many times, but i think i might have experienced it today.
i have the AEM cold air intake, and the car is dropped (wuold matter only if i went over puddle on a rainy day)
it wasn't raining or anything, but its cold out there, and some stupid birds shyt on my car so i went to get an auto car wash (non-contact of course) at the local gas station. when i came out of the drier, i hit the streets and started accelerating, i would say WOT (wide open throttle) but i was hitting the gas and the car seemed to chug-a-chug abit, sputtering. and choking.
and then it became stable and i started driving back slowly with my hazards on. it still chocked abit until i got on my street. when i was experiencing this "choke" sound, the "check engine" sign did not come on, i believe the SRS light came on. desperately fllipping through the manual i found that it stands for something like
Security Restraint System? or osmething like that? what hte hell is that? it came on briefly and behaved normal.
after i got home, i started testing my engine and trying to hear the sound of my engine, i did'nt notice any engine failure, or engine choking sound. when i was starting to believe that the engine was ok i started revving harder to see the higher notes of my engine. and everything seemed to be workign fine. i drove aroudn the block and once street at WOT. everything was fine and no chugging or choking as if water entered the engine.
and then i tried to think of things backward as logically as i can, and i came to the conclusion that i think excess water might have entered through my fat and wide Greddy exhaust pipe, and ocme to think of it it choked cuz the water was blocking the fumes/pressure leaving the engine, i htink all leaked out and things seems to be working fine now.
i hope my diagnostics is correct, i just wanted ur opinions.
i know hydrolock first hand from experience, because my brother had a cold air intake and on a rainy day he DID go over a deep water puddle. his engine chugged and choked and failed. and then it kept turning off, while mine seemd to stutter for a bit...but i'm pretty sure its the exhaust sound and not the engine choking. and furthermore, i woulda seen a checking engine sign ages ago.
...and unless the whole filter is emerged in water, it is PHYSICALLY impossible for water to be sucked into the engine. for example with rain, practically impossible for water to enter the engine in the rain because not all holes are blocked (common physics). and this goes for the car wash too.
but i'm still bothered by it, this never happend to me before....
what happens to u shove a fat orange into an exhaust? it chokes right? engine fails? i believe its the same concept. i hope u all dont experience the same.
let me know what u all think.

this happens to me every single time i wash my car (hand wash at home). dont worry about it, i know what your talking about. everythings fine. my car stalls a bit too. its the excess water that has entered into your exhaust system.

Not necessarily. I went to my dealer and they washed my car after I told them not to. They got the CAI I had on wet and as I was leaving the dealer I felt the car suck up the water and stutter. I took it back and the mechanic took it out for a test drive with me. He said that small amount of water should be burnt off. And it did. The only thing that worries me is that I heard that valves could be bent with water injestion. The car still performs well so hopefully that is not an issue but I NEVER want to feel my car stutter like that again.
It feel as if the engine is going to die and fail completely.
WADAD
I had a HUGE scare a month ago when it was pouring here in southern cali. my car is dropped and i got an aem cai as well. I never had a problem with driving in the rain....were you'll get in trouble is puddles. Getting off the freeway on my way to school some stupid *** soccer mom in her too-big-for-life SUV didn't see me on her right. She cut me off and I was forced into the next lane which was ridiculously flooded neer the curb. my car went a good half a foot under, but I kept the car moving. Here's where the horror story starts. A few seconds later my car's idle went crazy, up to 2500, down to 500, stall...started the car up again, put my foot on the gas to keep the revs up so I can pull in to the gas station just across the street. It did the same thing 2 more times until i shut it off. It was obvious I had water in there, although I'd done a little research on my own a while back and knew that if there was enough water in there to hydrolock i would have never gotten it to start agian. I had to get to school so i drove it down the street, went to class and prayed the water would be burnt off. Three hours later I turn on the car and everything's running just fine. Well, thats my story...if you have the tools, I'd go get yourself a bypass valve.
water in the cylinders=bad...water cannot be compressed, so enough in there and you'll crack anything...piston,rod, bent valves because of too much pressure...
