Ticking coming from the belts? how? Tell me more.

It sounds like my ticking/rattling is coming frm the valve train area in my car & I have never touched the belts.

AND it gets a bit quieter when I put thicker oil in the car. When I put 5w-30 in, it rattled hella loud, but when I put 10-30 and 10-40 in, it was significantly quieter.

It is really strange. It ralltes when the engine IS NOT under, BUT more when it is under then least load!!!!!!!!!

Mitsubishi = Notorious for ticking motors. People with pre-97 2G DSM owners can feel me

Subaru = engines sound like a freakin sewing machine

So I take it the ticking is just part of owning a Mitsu?

Ya know, I kinda like subarus, I just looked at a Impreza wagon yesterday & I liked how is was quality & different than everything else.

Well, thanks for the input!

The ticking on the Subaru's are because the firing order goes I belive 12, 34. Its like 2, two cylinder engines pretty much. Thats why you hear one side firing, then the other side, makes it sounds like a freaking sewing machine. And all the belts are up front, and of course the power steering is noisy because of the close ratio. As far as the Mitsu's go, nothing but the lifters SHOULD be ticking. They redesigned the lifters in 97 to incorporate a larger oil passage.

I used to get a weird ticking sound too. But it seemed to correspond to the car swaying on turns and the like. Now at high RPM's I just hear a hissing noise. Around 5000 - 6700 RPM's I get that hissing noise, and an exhaling sound when I shift. Sounds great, and I know that's my engine at work. Whining noise pjal? Hahah, that sounds kind of sad.
