Temp control knob

Well... the freakin thing was so hard to turn it broke. The knob is screwed, and the white thing the knob goes on is screwed as well. I know at least 2-3 people broke their's as well. Did you have to change the whole thing, or can I take the thing appart, put in a new white thingy and a new knob?

mine broke in february. its got tension on it normally. i turned it and the whole thing went limp, no tension. stuck on cold. i took it to the dealer. they said the cable just had to be reattached. $80 and 1.5 hours. they said if it happens again, they'll have to take the whole dash apart to clean out the track that the cable rides in. they say it gets dirt and crap built up in it. sounds like a bunch of BS to me. stealerships, what can ya do?

yeah... but my problem is not the cable. My problem is the knob and the white thingy broke and needs to be replaced. Hot weather is coming fast and I don't want to die cooked in my car.

any of you guys read the tech bulletin on the climate control for our cars ? The original pieces were proved to be insufficient to hold up. There is a WHOLE NEW setup available for that temp control unit. I had mine swaped out before my warrenty ran out. Havent had a problem since.

^^ Did you have to pay anything or was it all covered under warranty?

^^^It should be a recall, so no cost I'd assume. Mine just isn't so bad that I'd need to get that done yet. Hope it doesn't come down to it...

When I contacted the dealer about the issue they were going to charge me a ridiculous amount of money since my warranty ran out. Parts alone are around 20$.

^^^ But that's the thing...It's not a warranty issue, it's an OEM part/function recall done to the difficulty of the operation of that knob. Is there a time-limit on recalls???

There is no time limit on a recall, tell the dealership you contacted mistu canada and they TOLD you the dealership would replace it under recall, jesus dealers act like asses when it comes to recalls.

When I went in for my ECU recall, the dealer fixed some sort of cooling fan recall as well. I never asked them about it. It was some sensor or something. My car never had recall taken care of before I got it.

Sisters 02 Galant has the same temp control knob issue. The cable has a ton of stress on it from crappy routing and design and it pops out of its guide down where it moves that flap thingy on the firewall. Takes about 5 seconds to fix now but the first time I spent a good hour with cranking on the knob that won't turn and looking at how it worked.
