WTF? Steering Wheel Prob

WTF? Steering Wheel Prob

ok i just lowered my car with the progress springs from RRM and changed out shocks/struts with new KYB's. Since Then i have had a terrible rumble in the steering wheel and i cant figure out why. any ideas?

Plus i hear an occasional grinding noise from the front end when making almost ninty degree turns with and elvation change i think its just a rub but not 100% but i guess lowering a car with 215/45 17's that isnt to bad of a prob

With the almost 2" drop and the extra wide and tall tires you'll have tire rub. The "rumble" should be the tires needing to balanced and you'll "need" to get a new alignment ASAP. You'd hate to wear down your new tires prematurely...

check the torque on your lugnuts as well.

yea...i already had it aligned and the tires were balanced as well.....could it just be moving more becuase of it being lowered and its letting me feel more bumps? also i was lookin online and i found progress makes a front camber adjustment plate do you think that would be beneficially and possible eliminate the rumble?

Get the balance on the wheels checked, sometimes they don't get it right on the first try. You might be rubbing as well but I'm not sure if that would cause the rumble.

camber adjustment shouldn't do anything for vibration. you definitely will feel more bumps... but not to the point where you will feel like there is an issue.

how low is the car? did you slam it, or is it a reasonable height?

Did you check to be sure that youre rubber or mag arent rubbing themselve on the undercover or anything.. my point is that with 2 " drop plus 215 / 45/17 shoes, it must be pretty tight down there.. check it out when you turn the steering to the max

max your suppose to run on tire on the 2003 lancer without influencing the odometer is 205/40/17

^ its 205/45/17 thats dead on on the speedo, 205/40 is under.

no the lowering kit is definatly a reasonable height.....im still trying to find out why its rumbleing the way it is.....i called rrm and there suggestion was to check the lugnuts and go balance.


also the rub has been figured out....the tire actually makes contact with the plastic cover inside the well.....it barely hits it, n e ideas how to make a temp fix till i need new tires? i was gonna to try to sand the covering down a little, otherwise i have no ideas

you could always remove the cover. might not be a huge issue if you live in an area where you won't get much rain, snow, or sand up in there... which is pretty much nowhere! if such a place exists i want to move there.

worst case scenario you get tires that aren't so huge. i have my car dropped and there's a gap that's amost two fingers all around and this is with 195/60/15s (a.k.a. stock size on the OZ rims). it looks fine, too.

^ Move to SC then... LOL Little rain, snow?, sand - nope. Only thing around here is the un-patch pot hole that'll either scratch your rims or pop your tires.

I have the factory OZ rims and i still rub a little turning on a grade. I only dropped the car 1 3/4 in.

I have had the Progress springs with 215/45 17 for well over a year now and I get that rub every now and then but it's never caused any real problems. Your gonna feel the road a lot more with that set up, it's normal to a point. If the tires were out of balance it would be a more constant vibration at certain speeds. Keep an eye on your tire wear. The shop that did my first alignment after install screwed mine up and I went through four tires before I had a Sears auto center check it, they said it was all F'd up.

thanks ill take it to a garage soon.....somethings gotta be out of balance cuz the ride down to florida for school the constant vibration around certain speeds led me to believe that it is definatly a balancing issue becuase the car's alignment felt good.

Thanks for all the input. but has anyone else come up with an idea to elimate the rub in the mean time till i need new tires?
