Truck won't open!

My truck latch (the one near the gas door latch) does not open my trunk nemore. It was getting stiffer and stiffer (cuz of rust) and I finally put WD40 on it and it and it's nice and loose now -- but it doesn't open my trunk anymore.

I'm guessing the latch is dissconected from the cable --- but how in the blue hell do you get to it? I tried opening up the kick panel etc, but I don't want to take the entire carpet off or the seat off. How do you get to the latch? And would it even be the latch or could the cable piece be broken off? How much would the dealer cost to fix it?

Please help -- i dont even have a trunk door key lock on it either (that's broken too!)

well.... Get into the trunk via the rear seat that folds down. Open it using the pull release. Then you will be able to see any dmage that may have occured to the cable in the trunk area. Im not sure how its routed through the car but Something could have happened to it in the trunk as well. It is probaly a cable issue I would assume.

im pretty sure its broken from the front of the car... It was really getting stiff cuz a lot of rust developed on there.. as soon as I put wd 40 on it... and I was able to lift the latch... it doesn't work anymore. So I would like to know how to take apart the latch from the front of the car..

I also have a heavy system in teh back; I won't be able to get to the trunk from the rear seats.

I dont know how its routed. unless someone else chimes in I would reccomend taking the sill plate off and then peeling the carpet back in that area. You should be able to pull it back enouph to see it anyway. It is possible that it did rust out and just seperate from the latch itself.

hm

I tried to peel back the carpet, but it is really hard to get into unless I take off the seats and things like that. Is it better to take it to the dealer then?

Maybe. I would call them and ask to talk to someone who knows something about this.. One of the tech guys. explain your problem and see if he would trouble shoot for you for a second. Might save you the trip.

it just runs straight back through the back seat and up into the trunk lid. have you checked the connection on the latch itself? could have come undone or come loose some how.

today i took off the seat and peeled back the carpet as much as I could... Funnily enough, the cable is still on the latch and it works fine. So the problem Is in the trunk itself.

Now question is... how do I get the trunk open? The trunk lock cylinder is also jammed and is comming undone from the trunk. I can't come in from behind the seats because theres a huge subwoofer box in the back.

If i rip the lock cylinder out, can I open the trunk somehow? Once I get it open, I know i can get a new lock cylinder and probably fix the connection with the cable.

get a new lock cylinder seems like your only option at this point... since you cant get in from the inside.

I forgot about that switch. It's for valet purposes, so they can't get into your trunk.
