i have a 2006 lancer ES.i just recently put in a new head unit and new wiring harness made for easy conversion. When i installed it there were 2 extra wires from the harness and about 4 extra from the unit. the 2 wires from the harness are orange and say illumination and dim and are orange one with a stripe. the ones from radio are blue(2) black and brown. ive tried connecting some of them but i still get nothing. the lights from the speed rpm and other guages wont work but lights such as engine, gas work fine. im fine driving without lights but i bet cops wont be.

You might wanna move this to the audio section.

Okay, so you switch in your post from the radio (HU) to the gauge cluster not lighting up. Plz explain what the cluster lighting has to do with the HU again? The "dim" wire you don't "need", and the other might be for a power-antenna (which we ain't got).

Illum wire you don't need either. A blue one from the deck is usally remote wire which hooks up your amps. If you don't have any amps... you don't need to hook that one up. the black is ground usually... hook that up to the chasis of your car!!!! usualy the metal bar behind the deck is good enough.

The lights in your odometer wont work now cuz you probably blew a fuse experimenting with those extra wires!
