CEL on RRM Headers
Very true but if someone gets a cel for their first o2 sensor and not their second one on the cat. What is that telling you? Because a check engine light eliminator doesnt go on your first o2 sensor

Wow, that was a looonnnnngggggg time ago
I wonder what's his troll name?

Its telling me that you need to replace that front 02 sensor. It would throw a code if you put a CEL eliminator on the front one because it wouldnt be reading enough of the emissions.
Seemed to work fine for me. But I also have both cats removed. I assume that because of the second cat, there is more backpressure over by that second 02 sensor forcing more of the emissions up into the little CEL eliminator and it basically becomes useless. You kinda get what Im saying? I dont really know how else to explain it but it seems to make sense. Seems like anyone that has that second cat seems to have a problem with the CEL eliminator. Ive only had one 02 cel and it was for the heating element in the 02 sensor cause I twisted the wires when I took the sensor out of the stock header and it must have broke something. Bought a new sensor and it went away.
Ahh I bet your right that makes sense I never thought of that. However that won't help me pass smog test this month if I do that.
But I'll have to try that after thanks! I bet that will take a little of thar back pressure off too...
Also how does the RRM header remove the first cat? Excuse my noobish question I just don't understand that.. It's only a one piece... Do I swap (excuse my lack of terminalogy) the piece behind the header right before the cat...? And this is how I get rid of the cel light? (with the cel eliminator also) .. Am I way off here?
ROAD/RACE
Okay this thread is freaking me out.
Not kidding. I just bought an OBX header on ebay for a rocking price
and my dad was STRONGLY against it saying how hard it would be messing with the exhaust stuff that has rust on it. So I decided earlier not to buy it....then my dad checks it and decides to bid a couple dollars up and next thing I know I log in and I won the thing. So I tried to comfort myself with thinking of taking it along with a catback exhaust to an exhaust shop. However now I'm freaked out thinking that the CEL might come on or that (like someone said) it's illegal to take off the catalytic converter for the header.
I'm lost. Can someone please comfort me with some information because otherwise I might just sell the OBX headers . . .

First off. Don't trip!
even if the cel light comes on it's really no big deal it just sucks if it's on for another reason and you don't know cause your header. As everyont has commented. The header eliminates the PRE-CAT and this is why it throws a code. There are diff ways to try and get it off rrm sells the eliminator but that didn't work for me and I'm to lazy to grind it down... It still throws a code with the eliminator, however you can mess with and get it not to.
Also if it's rusted you bought it used. No biggie man. Still good most likely.
As for legality. It s technically illegal I suppose... Which is bull **** cause I run just as clean emissions wise... This is for CA. Idk where you are located... So idk about you
bit for me you really just have to take it off and but tthe stock manifold back on wen you get t smogged.. No one is going to pull you over and be like is that a header ?! Omg you going to jail !! lol so don't trip sounds like you got a good deal and have fun with a couple extra horses!

Oops.
LoL.
I guess I was tired and frustrated last night because my response was a bit backwards. But what I meant was that the original exhaust parts would be rusty...not the new header I'm getting. I apologize, my fault.
Also, I live up in Washington state and just had my emissions test done without the header. Not sure if it would be a problem in the future though.
*Sigh* Anyone interested in a header for 03-06 lancer
I may just sell the bloody thing so I don't have to worry about any problems.
.....who knew modding would be so difficult.

modding is not difficult. You can always swap back to the original header in the event of upcoming smog checks. As for rusty exhaust parts, um, so what? A spark plug extender bought from a local auto parts store and installed on your lower o2 sensor will work like a cel eliminator. And as far as legality goes, no one would be doing it if it was a big deal. I was just saying it above as a joke. Install your header and enjoy it. I reccommend removing the radiator fans for the install btw, makes it much easier.
